I agree. I've had some scary drives to and from Red Lodge in the winter.

Thank you all for the wonderful advice. As for why I wont just live in Billings, I would rather be more in the open if Im moving from the city =) From what I understand (and I could be very wrong) Laurel has more openness to it. Its good to know there are good medical facilities in the area. Longer commutes dont bother me either =) In the city I drive about an hour to get to some of the doctors we see lol. For work, my fiance is working in Billings, but Im a photographer so it doesnt matter really where I live.

Well, cities in Montana are not very big as cities go. Openness is there in Billings, too, as a view to the rimrocks from the south part of town or over town from the rimrocks, or from anywhere, the wide horizon. You are just minutes into the country from any place in Billings. Laurel has started to feel like a subdivision of Billings, as there are businesses all along the interstate between Laurel and Billings.

If you are in Billings, this is the view you would see from the rims on the northwest side of town.

I agree with happiness-is. Living "in" Billings doesn't necessarily mean city living. You don't have to get far out of town at all to get the open feeling of being in the country. You might find just what you're looking for on the edge of Billings.
