I don't post much, but when I do, it's because I want to be helpful. Also, I want people to like Montana ** IF ** it's right for them, be it for visiting or living. If it's not right for them ("I hate winter.") then I want to let them know that, too.

For me CD became a bit of a life line with my sudden change from a metro way of life to isolation. It gave me a link to get my self orientated. It helped me learn more about the Montana/Western way of life. I have since then wanted to help others. How about you?
Thought provoking question......

.........Hey "7"......this is the "long answer".....................................

I think the "common thread" in all of our minds when we sense that someone is truly looking for some guidance, is to try and provide some info that will be helpful AND accepted in the spirit"that it was given!

Some of you know that "I am long on years" and "short" on patience. The years 'thing', I have no control over.......the 'patience' thing is obviously one of my many faults---and I am 'working on that'. When I post an answer to someones inquiry (particularly in an 'area' that I think (IMO) I am knowledgeable), I try and get as much background info as I can by asking some questions. (as we all know....so many inquiries re Montana and/or things related to Montana......are waaaaaay too general in nature..i.e. "Tell me about MT.....How will I like living there?

......(NOTE: Perhaps being in my 80th year and being "labeled by my family & friends as a detail oriented person", , I sometimes "am too direct". Most inquiring people accept this approach as an obvious attempt to provide an intelligent, applicable and sincere answer(s).
Once in a great while.......an OP "thinks we are mind readers" and answers back ..... (with a chip-on-the-shoulder)......saying I am "prying",etc, etc, etc....and my questions don't deserved to be answered ), when all I was trying to do was get sufficient background info so I could give him the info he was looking for..........well, "you can't win 'em all".

Even though I am not a native to MT, I feel.... having traveled the entire state since 1959, been involved on hundreds of industrial projects....(mining & milling, power, timber, hydro, & air pollution)..... all over the entire state for 40 years of working and lived here full time for 32years.....
I can hopefully provide some accurate, informative and objective answers to inquiries re Montana and several other Rocky Mountain States.

............Hey "7" , this is the "short answer" to the Question: Why do we post:..."To Help"

EDIT: I certainly should mention that in the 4 years I have been reading this forum.......I have learned a hellava lot. There are many on here that are far more knowledgeable than I, and I Thank you for passing on your information to the rest of us.

As my good friend MTSilvertip has indicated in so many ways in the past: We are fortunate and grateful to live in this wondrful state.

And thoughtful rememberance to our departed (a few years ago) friend who loved Montana as we do: MTLogger

Beautiful Griz, and yes remembrance to Mtlogger.
I always appreciate your ability to narrow in on the circumstance. That would be called a problem solver in the business world today.
I just call it cut to the chase. You are quite valued here.
Thanks for all the responses, much to ponder and think about.
