cold front moves through the region. Strong winds with the
front will produce reduced visibility at times...especially
over marias pass which will result in hazardous travel.

* snow accumulations: 2 to 4 inches in the valleys with 4 to 6
inches atop marias pass.

* wind: Southwest 20 to 30 mph gusting to 45 mph at times.

The national weather service in missoula has issued a winter
weather advisory for snow above 4500 feet...
Which is in effect from noon mdt /11 am pdt/ thursday to 6 pm mdt
/5 pm pdt/ friday.

* impacts/timing: Snow levels will decrease thursday afternoon and
evening causing rain to turn to snow and accumulate on
roadways...especially over the passes. Lolo...lost trail...and
lookout passes will all be impacted by difficult driving
conditions at times with snowy/slushy roads and poor visibility.

* snow accumulations: 6 to 10 inches over lookout pass...4 to 7
inches over lolo pass...and around 10 inches at lost trail pass.

* locations impacted include...dixie...bannock pass...highway 28
tendoy to lone pine...highway 93 lost trail pass to
gibbonsville...lemhi pass...highway 93 sula to lost trail
pass...lolo pass

will turn west to northwest behind a cold front on friday
afternoon.

mdt monday...

The national weather service in great falls has issued a winter
storm warning for snow and blowing snow...which is in effect from
6 pm this evening to 6 pm mdt monday. The winter storm watch is no
longer in effect.

* timing and main impact: Widespread snow will develop this
evening and continue through monday. The heaviest snow will
occur after midnight through monday morning. Snow will diminish
late monday afternoon and evening.

* snow accumulations: Total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches
are likely over the plains...with 10 to 20 inches in the
mountains.

* winds and visibility: Visibilities will frequently be below a
half mile. Gusty northwest winds 15 to 25 mph will also cause
areas of blowing and drifting snow. Near blizzard conditions
are possible.

* other impacts: Roadways will be snow covered and slippery.

* locations affected include: White sulphur springs...
Stanford...lewistown...lewistown divide...big sandy... Fort
benton...great falls...kings hill pass.

Smile Road conditions

Thanks for posting the road conditions!! I started a new job in Livingston and live in 4 corners. The roads were terrible this morning and I"m contemplating staying the night in Livingston.

The national weather service in billings has issued a red flag
warning...which is in effect from noon monday to 6 am mdt
tuesday. The fire weather watch is no longer in effect.

* impacts...critical fire conditions are expected monday afternoon
and night as a result of unseasonably warm temperatures...low
humidities...gusty winds...isolated thunderstorms...and a
strong cold frontal passage with a dramatic wind shift.

* cold front...a strong cold front will move across the areas
early monday evening. This front will produce strong and gusty
west to northwest winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

* wind...south to southeast winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30
mph are expected monday afternoon. Winds will shift to the west
and northwest early monday evening with winds increasing to 20
to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph.

* thunderstorms...isolated thunderstorms ahead of the cold front
monday afternoon into monday evening will increase the potential
for lightning generated fires.

* humidity...as low as 15 percent monday afternoon and evening.

* temperatures...in the mid to upper 70s.

are either occurring now...or will shortly. A combination of
