.a strong storm system will track through the northern rockies
late tonight through wednesday evening. This storm has the
potential to bring significant snowfall to the mountains of
southern montana and northern wyoming as well as their associated
foothills and other nearby areas.

A winter storm watch remains in effect from this evening through
wednesday evening.

* timing...snow will begin over the higher elevations by tonight
and spread to the foothills and nearby lower elevation areas
by wednesday morning. The snow will diminish by wednesday night.

* snow accumulation...8 to 15 inches of snow is possible in the
mountains with the higher amounts mainly on northeast facing
slopes from placer basin to mystic lake. Southern facing
slopes will see somewhat lesser amounts. Foothills and
nearby lower elevations may see from 5 to 10 inches.

* impacts...roads will become snow packed and slick with local
visibility reduced to under a half mile at times.

* winds...brisk westerly winds tuesday night will turn
northerly on wednesday at 5 to 15 mph.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A winter storm watch is issued when significant winter weather is
possible but not imminent. At this time there is a potential for
significant snow. Future driving conditions may become hazardous
so it is important to monitor the latest forecasts.

* winds: Sustained west winds of 35 to 45 mph...with gusts to
65 mph can be expected.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of northeast montana. .day one...today and tonight there is a chance of snow tonight across northeast montana. The best chance of snow will be west of glasgow and jordan. Accumulations will be an inch or less in most areas. Areas near the north dakota border will have a chance of patchy freezing drizzle this evening. .days two through seven...wednesday through monday a chance of snow will continue into wednesday mainly south of the missouri river.
