I am a single mom with a teenage son and 2 cats; we lost our home and made decision to move to MT but our temp housing fell through; we are determined to get out of Calif and move to MT no matter what; I have excellent and varied job skills but we have no place to stay when we get there (next week) and very little $$. Any suggestions for cheap motels, trailer rentals, work in exchange or whatever? Any positive suggestions, solutions would be greatly appreciated. Would love to hear from someone in similar situation who found solution.

Can't remember where we stayed briefly when we moved here, but my suggestions would be:

Get in contact with some of the ranches that are all over MT... perhaps trading work for a living space is something one of them might consider.

Call some homeless shelters... they can be a great sourse of information for emergency housing.

There are folks that live in tents for a good part of the year, but I would not recommend it.

It's a rough time of year to move. Winter is coming fast and it's below freezing almost everynight now. Coming to MT with no housing and no job is going to be very tough.

What city are you headed to or is that flexible?

Check the newspapers for motel room or just rooms by the week.

I am sending one more link by private message because it isn't a standard option.
