Anaconda
My family and I will be visiting MT in about a month. We have done some research and have decided on Butte, Anaconda, and Helena. We want to see these towns up close so we can decide if this is where we want to move at a later date. Can anyone tell us more about Anaconda as a place to live? I have not found much on the web, but it seems so pretty. Thanks!!

Anaconda
is like butte in that it was raised on the mining industry. There are ongoing pollution issues as with almost everywhere else in Montana. I wouldn't let that keep you away, Anaconda is a lovely town. Libby has asbestos, almost every large lake has mercury and PCB problems. It still beats breathing big city air and drinking big city river or lake water and putting up with big city gang bangers. I can't remember the last time I was asked for spare change from some filthy junked out bum ! Ahhhh, it's starting to get on in the afternoon and I think I'll cruise down to Thompson Falls (Named after The famous mountain man David Thompson), to have supper and do a little fishing for German brown trout in the Clark Fork River. I'll be sipping an ice cold Samuel Adams Boston Lager while spin fishing just below the dam with plastic crank baits. YEA BUDDY !

We have property south of Anaconda along Mill Creek Road in a area called clear creek there is also Aspen Hills on the lower and less snow packed area.
We suggested the area to a couple with 2 kids to look at the area and the next thing I knew they bought a place and moved in.
So be sure to check that area as well just keep in mind the snow pack if you get to high up the mountain.
Anaconda has a couple of grocery stores and such, but Butte is where we go for most supplies.

Everything is closing down in Anaconda, there's potholes in the road, and the town is in a general state of disrepare. Helena's nicer.
At least Anaconda gets a lot of snow which fills in the potholes....

Lets see I was just there a few weeks ago, had ice cream at the dairy queen and sat on the side porch. I sure did not notice the pot holes you are refering to.
Yes we lost a great Antique shop to a high end furniture store but I am not seeing the town going down hill anytime soon.
Have you been out past the safeway on the other end of town lately heading towards Georgetown? Its beautiful out that way as well.
I mean where else are you going to find a laundrymat, casino and bar all under the same roof and a warning not to wash horse blankets?
Yes there is only 1 motel in town that accepts pets, but it is unique in there is a bar on the first floor and the rooms refer to famous anaconda doctors and such.
There is 2 hardware stores and a lumberyard in town plus the library for internet access what more to love?
Anaconda is pretty central to all things good, Wise River and the big Hole river, Wisdom, Georgetown lake.
I can not comment on Helena

We are Moving to Anaconda
My boyfriend and I are moving to Anaconda in October. We just bought a huge house. I have questions. Can I get high speed internet there? Is there any good jobs there?
I have lived my whole life in Iowa. My man is from Helena Montana area. We are moving to Montana so he can be close to his daughter.

Thanks for all the info. Glad to hear they have DSL. We work from home and so jobs are not an issue for us. You all have made me want to see it even more. Snow is not an issue for us as we currently live in Utah. Can you tell me if the schools are good there?

Wow Daniel...I'm scared to know what you're stationed in VA Beach for.
