Do lots of research. This is a great site for insight into life around this state. maybe search "local" town paper classifieds. That usually gives a great idea on cost of rent/mortgages. Just keep looking at city data sites.

The small towns near Bozeman to look for rentals are Belgrade, Manhattan, and Three Forks.
Check the classified ads in the Independent Record newspaper for Helena and the Bozeman Daily Chronicle for Bozeman.
