Wind- Average Wind Speed- (MPH)
Hey, that's great, but average wind speed doesn't say anything at all about it's frequency...

Many who might come from Billings to party in Missoula experience much the same kinds of things... I assumed you were just visiting here and not living with permanent residence......

It doesn't happen here like it does in the Zoo.
Wrong on all counts....

Lets just agree to disagree on this and leave it at that, since we obviously have had different experiences of the same places.

Let all the out-of-staters move to Great Falls, let them see for themselves because then they would leave Montana for good.

I am somewhat reminded of this old tale...

Seems there was a stranger visiting a town, and he was looking for a new place to work and raise his family. He stopped by a store and noticed a few old boys sitting outside, catching up. So he introduces himself and asks these gentlemen if this is a good town to work and to raise your family in.

They smiled, and asked in turn ~ "what was your old town like?"

And the Man replied, "oh it is terrible - neighbors turn their backs on neighbors, most employers will cheat you out of your hard earn dollar, the women gossip on just about anything and everything inbetween, most teenagers are punks who steal if they can get away with it, and all the young people get stoned every friday and saturday night."

One of the gentlemen then replied... "oh my, well, thats exactly how you'll find it here..."

So the stranger drops his head and walks back to his truck to leave town.

Soon another stranger approaches these same old gentlemen, and what do you think his question is? "Good afternoon! You two seem to be enjoying this fine weather we are having today. I was wondering if you could be so kind and tell me if this town is a good place to work and raise a family?"

And they smiled back at this stranger, and asked "so, what is your old town like?"

"well..." the stranger started, " my job doesnt pay too much but its just enough to get by... but our neighbors always share what they have and we try to do the same in tough times. The women try to get us all together whenever they can, whether it be a potluck or a fundraiser, or just even to sit and talk as it can be lonely at times. The young folk try to keep busy even though times can be hard for anyone who needs a job... and we do find that sometimes we wish we had more community things to do to bring us all in together, but we are working on that when we can..." He shuffled his feet and waited patiently for their response.

And the old gentlemen smiled...

"Well, thats exactly how you'll find it right here, son..."

This is what we are losing here in Montana by being overrun with those from urban areas.

I've lived in Great Falls for over five years, and have not experienced any crime. We've had a few murders - but I think that I could count them on one hand. Don't know of any carjackings. I think that I heard about one mugging. A handful of car break-ins (stereos stolen). Overall - crime isn't a problem here, in my experience.

Great Falls is a fine place to live, especially for families.

Exclamation Oh My!!

Three years ago we left Ohio to go to northern AB. to help a small church out for a year. We were in between Cin. and Dayton where people would consider a high crime area. We had a rural house and my work truck was robbed twice while in my drive way. But we had great friends and a great church to attend and never had to worry about the kids being introduced to the wrong things. We then moved to a secluded are of AB. Canada and was warned that due to the local reserve that there was alot of drugs and crime. We never experienced that. We had good friends and so did our kids and we had a good church there. We moved to Great Falls after our year was up in Cananda waiting to see where we would go next. The first day of school my son in seventh grade was asked to smoke pot and we soon found out that our 4th grade daughter's friend had been raped by her father. Later that year we found out our daughter had been asked to smoke pot. We have been to every Christian claimed church in the area and have not found one in Great Falls worth attending. Through my of HVAC service I meet serveral people a day. I have found out that there is a lot of wica covenants in the area and that the first church of satan was started in Great Falls. My wife works in the schools and it is amazing to see the level of crime in the elementary levels. We have givin it a good effort but have come to realize it is time to move on. We have visited and spent time in other cities in MT. and have found that the major problems are isolated to Great Falls. As I have tried many times to rationalize the situation I think it lies mostly that on every street corner there is a casino and bar and they are all filled nightly with people looking for a false happiness. I also lay some of the problems in that it is a military city and while I thank the military personell every time I get a chance for keeping me safe and free they also aren't going to invest in a city that they are only going to live in for a couple of years. Rent and housing is also high here. We rented a 1000 square foot house and paid 1000 a month. The rent is high due to the tightening of loans and the demand on housing due to the military

I have lived in Vegas, and Miami. The only place I have had a car stolen, and broken into numerous times, has been Great Falls, MT! Go figure it.
