I recommend that you place an ad in the local paper (NOT craigs list) in the classifieds
"Wanted To Rent". There are local property owners who can respond to you if you
list what you are needing and describe your good record as a renter.

Hope that helps.

Thanks again for the helpful replies, and for the tip regarding floodplain awareness. I am in the land use profession, and will surely run across such issues soon.

I have been monitoring Cardinal, and have also come across a few complexes in NE Hamilton known as "Mountain View (I-III)". These, however, seem only restricted to low-income families. Is this true? Bongo, have you run across these also?

Yes, there's a unit in Red Lodge that has income restrictions, low income housing, it seems.

Good idea- may try that for our RL rental search.

Did you notice if the paper offers free advertising of any sort? I came across a $58.00, 10-day posting, but couldn't find much else.

Contact them for rates on classified ads. A phone call may seem old fashioned, but would work best to talk to someone in the classified dept. about what you need. It's worth what you will pay to set yourself apart from the crowd and define that you are a good renter, as well as attracting the attention of landlords who otherwise you would not find.

Happiness, thanks for the reply. I will look into this.

Does anyone know what areas of town are preferred, or are most generally safe? I'm considering rentals both close to downtown, and in the outlying areas.

It is a very small town, so it isn't big enough to have "good side" or "bad side" like large towns or cities.

We've found it very helpful & fun to "drive" up & down the streets on googlemaps. It has given us an idea of the lay of the land so to speak. And we googlemap all the housing choices that come up.

EDIT: Oops LOL My mistake... Hamilton is too small for a street view on googlemaps.

Happiness, I had thought the same thing. Bongo, I have enjoyed using that feature as well! It does work for Highway 93, which was helpful.
