Default what about Great Falls?

How is Great Falls? I was interested in a job opening there. Can anyone tell me a little about Great Falls. What kind of town would it be for a married couple around 38 with no children? Thanks for any insight, Clemson fan.

Default Never mind ...

... I read enough about Great Falls in the threads below. Seems like while some people defended the town, most people who have been there say it sucks.

I think Great Falls gets a "bad rap" by people who don't want you there.
I think you should visit the area and make your own decision. Charlie Russell chose it as his home town, and the Charlie Russell Museum is worth the visit.

I have visited the area on several occasions and always enjoyed my stay.

Good Luck

Rick

What types of things do you want to know? It helps to ask more specific questions. Do you want to know about housing prices? Establishments? Weather? Recreation? Social atmosphere? Or what?

Overall, a lot of people like GF. It's a city, by Montana standards, so has the usual set of chain establishments (eating, retail, etc.). It's not in the mountains but it's near them. The Rocky Mountain Front and the Gates of the Mountains (named by Lewis and Clark) are relatively close, and the Missouri River runs through the city.

Like many Montana cities, GF appears to be growing.

It also is a major military city, with Malmstrom Air Force Base in/next to the city.

I doubt that by reading about Great Falls from a few people that you get a true picture. You should probably visit and make your own decision. I lived there for several years and absolutely loved Great Falls and the people. I plan to move back someday. I guess I'm a little leery of people who say a town "sucks" - why do they, maybe it's them - not the town.

Default Great Falls

I lived in Great Falls for 4 years while we were stationed at Malmstrom. My family & I love the area, the people were nice, the weather was great for the most part (even the 30 below streak while hubby was in Korea for a year!), & our youngest daughter was born there at Benefis Hospital! There are plenty of resturants, & activities to do...lots of history to enjoy as well. The only reason we left is because we got orders up here near Spokane!
I believe it's like any of the various places we've been, both stateside & abroad. It's all in your attitude! I lived in Crete, Greece for 3 years, & absolutely LOVED it! But there were folks that never left the base (we lived off base, in a Greek apartment! It was an incredible experience!) & wondered why they hated it!
Best wishes to you both!
Kim (who STILL misses Great Falls!)
