Montana or British Columbia/Alberta?(Moving)
When I get out of college, I plan on moving out west. What's best for Me cost of living wise?
I have Dual US/Canadian citizenship and Albeta/BC are kind of bothering Me because of the very high cost of living and those good ol' Canadian taxes and prices.
Money is not a huge issue, My parents are going to help buy Me a home to get started.
I currently am living in Southern Ontario and hate it here, Little job opportunities, Taxes are so high, And wages are horrible, And everything costs more. Vancouver looks detrimental on prices.
Also, How are firearm laws in Montana? I heard they are barely any. (I like target shooting and Hunting)
Can anyone help Me where I should look into moving? I like My space, I don't mind being a little far away from cities.
Thanks

Firearm laws in Montana are definitely going to be better than anywhere in Canada.
Hell, California probably has more relaxed firearm laws than the most lenient providence of Canada.

Being a Firearm owner is a pain in the backside in Canada, It's probably one of the many reasons I'm probably going to the US west. Gun owners are treated like Criminals here and the Canadian west (Alberta/BC) I saw has much more crime then Montana Washington Oregon and Idaho. All the Gun laws do is protect the Criminals.
Just to get away from the RCMP and all the other police state like laws here would be a dream.
Many people have told Me If You're a Student getting out of University You're best bet is the United States not Canada.
Heck probably just the firearm laws would cause Me to go to Montana, That's ignoring all the cost of living. I know many people in Vancouver who tell Me they don't even shop in BC, They all go to Seattle Washington because it's just so much cheaper.
Montana's Sales tax is 0 except for a few places. BC is 19% all together that's ignoring Gas prices food clothing housing.
Both the climates seem similar and there are less people in Montana which I like.
To be honest Montana seems like My best bet, I don't want to lose all my money just trying to find a job in BC/AB because of the insane income tax, cell phone bills and everything else.

If you could get free Canadian healthcare while living in the US, due to your citizenship, that would be win-win.

One more factor to consider also.
US universities are often considered the best in the world, although im sure Canada has good universities, but they can be expensive. I believe Canada subsidizes their universities and caps tuition. If money isnt an issue to you, then this is a non-factor.

I'd take coastal Oregon way ahead of Montana any day. I'm sitting here in Niagara Falls with my "Oregon Coast" hat on and it's been 2 years since I was last there. Montana is surely beautiful but I'm not a big fan of the cowboy culture and it seems to me that almost all of Montana is very much like northern Ontario only more mountains. If the outdoor life is what you are really looking for then you could not beat Montana for hunting fishing and hiking, camping and all that. Oregon has all that too, plus it has the ocean which to me is a major plus. It also has a very good cross section of all kinds of different cultures which again I find very attractive.

Cost-of-living wise Montana would certainly be your less expensive option and as stated, far better as far as firearms laws are concerned.
Jobs matter too so depending on what your major is that will probably have some influence on what part of Montana you should focus on. Having parents who will buy your first home for you will certainly give you some added flexibility there since your living costs will be substantially reduced without having to pay rent/mortgage.
