I also am looking at Livingston to relocate to. My 2 questions are - wind! How much and how strong? There is wind sock on I90 near Livingston exit so that is reason why I am concerned with wind.
Also, we would be looking at house rentals. I checked Livingston paper but saw almost all apartments. Are there many houses available and are they decent/run down and all of those other questions? Probably should contact a realtor but hate to waste someone's time when only in initial checking out stage.
Thanks

I was born and raised in Livingston and visit there every summer where we have a little place.

Wind? they ask! The wind blows pretty much all the time from the North, then the South and often from both directions! It's often nice in the winter when a Chinook wind can melt 4 feet of snow in 3 or 4 hours. But wind really affects my fly fishing from the bank and I didn't get much in this summer.

It's still a pretty nice but changing town, very limited shopping but I hear that may change soon with a large development being planned east of town. Housing prices are rediculous, but not much is moving, so you might be able to strike a deal. Much that is for sale seems to be pretty old and run-down.

Well now where do I start/ I live just a bit south of Livingston. It is one of the best small town living cities there is. We have some of the best medical care in Montana at the Livingston Health care center and hospital. I have had multiple surgurys there and I think they are the best. Low crime beautiful views great schools, and small shops add to its charm. Plus Bozeman being just 15 minutes away means you can get anything you need and be home in less time than it takes to cook lunch. Property for sale is very plentiful in Montana but for some reason owners think its made of gold! Oh Yeah I forgot, we are the treasure state! LOL. Finding work is not difficult but jobs do not pay as much here. All in all Livingston is one of the best.

Default Hi Shawden

Livingston is one of the most beautiful places I've lived in (I've been to S. California, Seattle, Austin, and the desert areas). It's got lots of sunshine, the mountains are spectacular, the people are really friendly, and they do love their dogs! If you love the outdoors, this is the place to be :-)

The print shop you're interested in pays comparatively well for Montana. Big caution though... they are extremely competitive and expect a lot from their employees. Production is computerized and pressman's output (and mistakes) will be recorded daily. They expect at least a 75-85% productivity, if not more. Kinda feels like the big city... so if he's up to it, he'll do well here. The rest of the place feels like a charming little town, even thought it seems to be growing by a thousand or more people a year. The neighbors are great!

Default we dream of MT

Hi there all,

I am heartened to hear such welcoming words to new residents of the state.
We are doing our research to move to MT.
I was raised in Oregon, and have relatives there and in ID. Ever since I visited Helmville several yrs ago I have dreamed of moving to MT.
My grandmother MYRTLE MOE (SHE just passed last yr at age 101!!) was raised there --- my visit was very moving.
One of her childhood friends was still there and I got to meet and visit with her, "Peaches" is her name.
My husband and I have bounced around this country alot but primarily we have lived in NJ where my husband is from and in southern CA where there is work and some family. We are freelancers who work by computer with occaisional trips for mtgs. Sometimes I substitute teach. Love kids.
We are really excited about the prospect of moving to the Livingston or maybe the Bozeman area.
One big question is , how are the schools?
Esp. the elementary and middle schools? Which are is better for schools?
And which area seems more family oriented?

Any input is greatly appreciated!!

PS we are currently in NJ.

Hmmmm, seems like maybe I should run to Livingston and buy up some of the property and get ahead of the rush. LOL And I would then be glad to sell you some of it at a handsome profit to myself of course.LOL Just Kidding lest someone lasso's me and ties me to a chunk of barb wire and drags me thru town! When you said beautiful Livingston I had to stop and think, Beautiful? I've never thought of Livingston in that manor before but some of the views are beautiful.

Here's my $.02.

PrintingforLess is Livingston's big success story. Your original post was fine: your target audience would have immediately known which company you were referring to. (At least I did!)

I've done some printing orders with them and had some exchanges with a couple of their employees. My sense is that the company is pretty good... they certainly seem like nice people, employees seem laid back, happy, etc.... but they will pay Montana wages, which are very low. Can't blame them for that, but I imagine that some employees eventually may come to resent the low wages, given the company's success. But that's just Montana's labor market; it pays very poorly.

Livingston is a terrific town and may be Montana's next big boomlet. The subdivision plans for the city project major expansions in the next 5 years that could nearly double the size of the town. Unfortunately, the cost of housing is currently too high for the area's wages. It's more affordable than Bozeman, to be sure, but it's getting up there. Expect to pay $250-$300k for a modest home (you've probably already cruised realty listings). Also, Livingston is one of the windiest places on the planet. Were it not for the wind, I think Livingston would be twice its size.
