Hello all
I'm going to Billings in the 1st week of December to deliver a seminar and I'll be staying at the Crown Plaza downtown. Can I kindly ask the locals for a couple of good places to eat? I'll have access to a car and someone else will be driving. I bring that up because I from Texas and I am lousy driver on snow and ice. |

you are in easy walking distance to Jakes , and the Rex, and also the Montana Brew Pub. All have great food. For breakfast I would walk down the street to Stellas or over to the McCormick Cafe.

Try the Oxford French Toast at McCormick's cafe, it's really good! |

Famous Dave's Barbeque is a good place, too. Very good food.

Walker's and the Rex are better than Jake's (kind of high price for what you get) for all sorts of stuff, although if you have time you might as well try them all. If you like sushi then you need to go to Sweet Ginger, try an off time like 2 or 3 in the afternoon, you'll be the only one in there and the owners are almost always there. Try Rocket Burrito for lunch, I promise that they don't serve the traditional burrito and that they are great! Another good place to go for lunch or dinner is Pug Mahon's their fish & chips or pasties are killer, they also make a mean black & tan. Another one to check on for lunch is Tiny's Tavern. All of the afore mentioned are downtown. One that I really like for the west end is Enzo's, they are around 32nd & grand. Famous Dave's is really good, but they along with a lot of other west end places are chain style and you can get their food in a lot of other towns. The one's that I named are the only ones I know of around. Some other Billings ones are the Windmill (a very old Billings one with a brand new building), Rib & Chop house (one of three in MT & WY and very tasty stuff), The Granary (a very old Billings one that has been remodeled recently.) Sadly if we still lived in Billings and didn't have kids we would have no money left after eating out at some of these places.

Just to add to the previous post...and remember, this is just one opinion...
Yes, Walker's is good, but I feel it's very spendy. The food there isn't your traditional Montana fare, it's more like what you would get in a larger city, a more eclectic menu. I also think Enzo's is high priced for what you get. The cuisine there is Mediterranean. As for Sweet Ginger, the last time I ate there the food and service were both bad. Maybe the owners were gone that day! I sure wouldn't choose it again if I have a craving for Asian food. I agree that Pug Mahon's is a great casual dining place. Their pork chop sandwich is huge and very good. Someone also mentioned Montana Brewing Company. If you like (or think you might like) sweet potato fries, there's are awesome! They come with a wonderful dipping sauce. Their sandwiches and brick oven pizzas are tasty and reasonably priced. If you get away from downtown and are in the mood for a deli sandwich then The Pickle Barrel off Grand & 13th can't be beat for the amount of meat and toppings on their sandwiches. A half sandwich has much more on it than a Subway footlong. There are a few Pickle Barrels in MT, but this one is owned by a local couple who do a superb job. The Windmill does have some of the best food around, but be prepared to pay for it. If you don't mind paying a bit more for a good meal, then that would be a good dinner choice. I haven't tried the Rib & Chop House yet, but have heard that it is good. If you're in town for awhile and would like to take a short drive in the country and experience Western decor & food, you may want to check out The Feedlot, a Shepherd steakhouse, or the Acton Bar & Steakhouse. Locals can give you directions if you so desire. Wow, I'm getting hungry! Time to go cook dinner! Have fun while in Billings! ![]() |

Strokers in Huntley is good also. I sure sorry to hear about Sweet Ginger, but as we have eaten there almost 50 times with nothing bad to say, we'll continue to do business there. We just found with two small kids that it is way easier to hit them between 2 and 4 then expecting them to make room for two booster seats when they have many other customers to take care of.
