Default Southwest in Missoula

We are planning to move to Missoula. The kicker is I am a huge fan of Southwest Airlines. I know I can drive 3 hours to Spokane but worry about the drive in winter. It is not only the lower fares of Southwest that I like - it is the ability to change your flight at a moment's notice without any charge in fees. Does anyone from Missoula know why Southwest does not fly into the city, or whether there has been any effort to bring them in?

Is the drive between Spokane and Missoula generally snow-free in the winter? I know the Bozeman area is pretty hairy. I have driven up there a fair number of times from Utah.

To get from Missoula to Spokane, you'll have to go over Lookout pass. Not fun.

And to add insult to injury I don't think that SWA will ever move into Missoula or any other Montana airport... SWA only flies into larger airports, and no airport in Montana is even remotely large.

No, but either is Boise and they fly into there. I think Missoula would attract a lot of people from Bozeman, Butte, Kalispell, etc.

Boise is about five times the size of Missoula and growing at a faster pace.

You can always fly Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air. They have daily service to Missoula on Horizon and you can get Mileage on Alaska Airlines and thru their Visa Card which you get miles on every dollar you spend.

Alaska Airlines / Horizon Air

Actually, Bozeman's airport is larger than Missoula's. Probably because of the huge influx of tourists due to Big Sky and Yellowstone. Missoula also gets tourists but not to the same extent.
