Oh Gosh the internet is awash in made-up, over the top claims. Anyone can create a story, a misquote, anything.

The old adage rings true- Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see.

There's one sheriff in northern California who's been sending outfits like the EPA packing when they harrass local farmers (and no fault of the farmers: trouble with all regulatory agencies, when they run out of real work, they create work by upping the ante on the regulated). So it's not just Second Amendment stuff.

There's a school of thought here (based on the historical office of sheriff as it originally was) that the sheriff's real job is to protect citizens FROM the government when said gov't goes beyond its original bounds (which in the U.S. is to say, the Constitution -- which was intended by the Founders as a set of limits on government, not as limits on the People).

Remember crop circles? two guys (along with some copycats as it progressed) created all that hype. They also made a hobby of getting the big news agencies to report nonexistent or bogus news as real, and had quite a record of success there (something like 20 major stories they'd made up from whole cloth). So, yeah. And it ain't just the internet; this kind of thing has been going on since forever.

Still, as I said the concept bears discussion. Our future rights may depend on it.

He's made a very clear and concise journalized statement regarding his appreciation of the 2nd amendment.
it's clear the Feds have already gotten to him and have probably already "implanted" a double.

To Arms! To Arms!

I was talking strictly about the Sheriff's that signed that pack and them being part of hoax's. That is what I haven't seen much of. At least not what I would expect to see.

Nah, the sheriff is an intermediate defense... The last-ditch defense are those mean, ugly guns in your safes, and your own willingness and ability to use them. We have only those rights we are willing to die defending. If we are not willing to fight for them ourselves, they are already gone...
