Hey Clint, thanks for the good response....
![]() Yea, I don't live on the res, so I can't speak to that or what goes on up there. But I get the drift of what you are saying....let me clarify my statement though.... White people (hate to use that term but)....., particularly white people who don't have much first hand encounters with indian culture really do have a good opinion and attitude about indians, and will hold that attitude until the indians they see and meet start making them changing their minds. Myself as an example grew up in an area of the country that had no indians to speak of, once in MT and I actually saw and became aware of indians my attitude definity started to change, AND please I'm not saying 'ALL', put I started seeing 'some' indians acting as, for lack of a better turn, low-lifes, notice I used the word 'some', but enough to make me start thinking differently, and also the stories about how 'some' indians really hate white people....so it was the 'some' indians that caused me to drop my oppinion of the indians down a couple notches. Granted, there are alot of low-life whites out there. But I kind of always knew about them. Also, 'hate' is never going to be removed from the world, so I think we are all living in this fantasy about curing racism. People don't need 'race' to hate you, white people have been hating other white people since the beginning of time, killing each other in wars since......So race has very little to do with it.....we just use it for an excuse........Speaking for myself, I didn't see white people disliking black people for being black, they didn't care what color they were, they dislike them for what they did, for what they did to they place they lived, crime, etc.....those same white people contiuned to respect, work with, have as friends the black people that were respectable people.....In short white people didn't dislike a group of people for their color they dislike them for the way they acted and even saw them as two different groups of people, plain and simple. The low life blacks never got it and still don't get it - they think any resentment towards them is because of their skin color - sorry wrong again - it's because of they way they act. And I think that's the case with indians to. If all the indians were doctors and teachers everybody, whites include would have a much differnt attitude about them. I actually see indians in various social groups, some good some bad and some indifferent, but hey that's true for everyone... So my advice get over it - people will hate you for any reason, even if it's because you have a big nose, so stop blaming race, wave a magic wond and make us all the same color and we'll still have the same problems, only it would probably be nose-ism instead of racism, that's life on earth. It doesn't matter who or what color you are - always act with dignity, respect others, do a good job and respect will find you, you won't have to ask for it. And those that still don't like you, don't think cutting off your nose and being a different color will help....love and hate will never disappear from the world....but we're getting into religion now................later |

What do I think about Native Americans? I myself, have a great great grandmother who was a Cherokee princess which is cool head knowledge and neat. However, anybody born in America is a Native American. If by Native AMerican, you mean Aboriginal American, then I'd have to say they are people like the rest of us. They are today no more or no less American than the next person. Every nation right or wrong has been forged from blood, guts, invasions, displacements, and assimilations. America is no exception. People get conquered and assimilated. it's a fact of life, like it or not. I'm not here to ascertain the moral implications of these acts, just stating the facts as they are. Modern Americans who are descended or partially descended from those conquered Aboriginal Americans do not need to be supported by my tax dollars! It's not mine nor anybody elses fault today, what happened 120 years ago on back! Do you think the modern Spanish government left over from the old Roman Empire, pays Spaniards whose ancestry traces back prior to Roman conquest and occupation? I seriously doubt it! There were wars between Aboriginal Americans and European settlers. Some wars were started by the Aboriginees and others by the Europeans. there were conflicts that erupted as a result of atrocities committed from both sides, not just the Europeans, as modern liberalism tries to brainwash us with! I'm sure what I'm about to say will no doubt offend some but that's not my intention. If one nation is going to conquer a nation either by assimilation or displacement, it needs to be fully realized and followed through with. If it's half a** done, the balance will undoubtedly grow and grow and come back either to reverse the deed or, as in our case today in America, retaliate in our economy! The Aboriginal peoples should have been totally destroyed or totally assimilated, or Europeans should never have settled here in the first place! It's one or the other. I don't say that with anger, hate, or malice. That's just an objective outlook on the nature of human migratory patterns and settlings. But, I have nothing against anybody per sec. If the situation was reversed and the Aboriginal Americans were invading the Aboriginal Europeans, I'd say the exact same thing!

Here's my 2 cents worth...
Original americans that lived here before all of the immigrates came over from over seas were back then, good, bad, and/or indifferent, just as the decendants are today. They lived off the land out of no choice. Todays world is very different. I am old fashioned in believing that we (me, included) waste to much. Live to fast to enjoy every day life, like sunsets, sunrises, flowers, birds, animals, scenery around us. I enjoy taking a horseback ride to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature around me, taking only pictures and memories with me. I am poor money wise, but I believe in enjoying people and everything around me. The color of skin, policitical beliefs, reglious beliefs belong to each individual, doesn't make them good, bad and/or indifferent. I personally just dislike dishonest, disrepectful people, mean people etc. I think you get my drift... I am out spoken, but I try to be honest, a good neighbor, friend, etc. Just my opinion! ![]() Generally not worth much if 2 cents Dee |

I was in church a couple of weeks ago, and there was a discussion in missionary work, and the lady was saying that on reservation's there is no electricity, and no running water, is this true? If that is true I think that is horrible, and makes my heart break.

Some reservations are worse than others. Some approach third-world conditions. Some look no different than any other rural town except the demographic composition. I've only seen reservations in Wisconsin and Michigan, which are pretty small compared to the big-mother reservations out West. Some are depressing, some I'd spend a week's vacation on because they're just that nice. But from what I hear, the most depressing upper-midwest rez is a Paradise compared to some of the ones out west.

Yes, it is true. Some of the homes are so remote on the reservation(s) you'd say they were beyond "off the grid." I made a journey to about 50-odd reservations in the 90s, and since then another 30 or more and they are all different.
Some are as modern as a new tract housing project, while others are so poor, folks don't always have glass-panes in their windows. But, there is something very special about the People, and there is a spiritual presence that can't really be described but only felt--especially before and during sacred ceremonies. The preparation of a Zuni dance can take many weeks, and the excitement makes the lack of amenities disappear. All you see is the dance, and all you hear is the music. |

At times it does but where else will you see such an honest trading of thoughts other than here? Certainly not in public since these are "taboo" subjects in most places and only to be spoken in hushed voices.

Zoe. When I was a kid, my family had no electricity or running water. Until a century ago no one who ever lived had electricity and mostly had no running water. Does your heart break for me and all the people who ever lived before me? Many, many people in the developing world don't even know they miss electricity and running water. Is that some sort of projection that only people who live like you and the ladies at the church can be happy? Do you read many of the post here about the people deliberately living on the edge's of society trying to make do with as little of the comforts as possible rather than how many? People who live on boats, in mountain aboriginal houses, etc? Moderator cut: Personal attacks will not be tolerated Last edited by ElkHunter; 02-14-2008 at 08:26 AM. |
