Hello, V&M here. This is our second time doing this. I restated and added more info. We would like to move to Glendive, MT from Prescott Valley, AZ. We would like to move in April of 2008. We are in our late 30's & late 40's with 1 son in high school.(I have checked this out & schooling is no problem.) We don't have jobs that can be transferred to there, but we would have enough money to survive on (rent, deposits, turning things on, etc.) until we get jobs there. We don't have collage degrees, just high school diplomas. We do have good work ethics and know how to do many different things.
AZ is a right to work state. Min. wage is $6.50 per hour. Between the both of us we make around $18.00 per hour. Housing is expensive. Rent on a 2 bedroom is around $700.00 per month. To buy a 3 bedroom home it is about $270 thousand. We have sales tax here around 8.63%. I think that is what it is. We do have a lot of amenities which Glendive doesn't, but willing to drive to get what we need or want. We used to go to Phx. (about 70+ miles away) to get speciality items; back when we loved our town; (in the 80's & even in the 90's). Our town has been ruined by many different things. It used to be safer, friendlier, quieter, smaller, and so many other things. We would like to have our town back the way it was in the 80's & 90's, but we know our nice little town is gone forever. This is why we would like to move. We have family in Glendive, they seen to like it there & think we would too. Our temps. are around 90's-100's in summer and 20's-30's in winter. We get some snow that can close down the roads. We live about 10-15 miles from the forest/camping/fishing/treasure hunting etc. We don't hunt really. Prescott has (mountains/forest) is about 10 miles away. Prescott Valley is fairly flat and open surrounded by mountains. We like renaissance festivals, fishing, rock hunting, medal detecting, camping, nature hikes, swap meets, yard sales, sight seeing, movies, family fun, etc. I think that about covers it. At least I hope so. If you can help with any info. (& or) suggestions please let us know. We would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, V , M , F![]() |

I have lived in Glendive for 20 years now. I moved here from Livingston. It took me a while to get used to the change of scenery! I'll try to help with your questions the best I can.

well glendive is pretty small and while i dont really know of anything really 'wrong' with it there arent many people choosing it as a relocation destination.housing is likely just as cheap in any number of small towns within 75 miles of billings or greatfalls with more employment oppertunities.if you like glendive, well more power to you,but if housing costs are your main concern and you want to move to montana there are many towns i would personally choose over glendive.have you even been there?you really need to visit the area to see if you think you would like it and visit some other areas also.some people love eastern montana but its a lot different then many people envision it,so you need to spend some time there before commiting to move there.i have family that live in places that arent right for me and i like some places the rest of my family would hate.people like different things, nothing wrong with that.why do you think you'd like glendive?

glendive is about 20 years behind everyone else its a quite community and everyone know everyones bussiness and i mean about everything and the longer your there they tend to gossip and tell everyone your bussiness i do like glendive as a retirement place but not as a place to live at a young age we do have drugs there and the kids have partys there too you don't get to concerts unless you drive like 222 miles away and the closest target or walmart is 222 miles away well the walmart in dickinson nd is only 91 miles away they don't know when to advance in life walmart has asked many time to come in and have a walmart there but they won't allow it and the down town district is dying anyway they have a kmart there which is small and they do outrages money in there sorry mrs king but you do and they don't have a mall one of those is 90 miles away in dickinson nd and they do have the best school systems in the country though well thats because the population is so small and they can do that if you want your kid to work at a good schooling they do have the best anywhere i do grant them that and the rent is cheap and the housing is pretty good too they only have 2 groceries stores albertsons and reynolds and they have great demolation derbys all the time and they have rodeos and cool stuff like that but glendive is small and you will have to reajust to it i moved from glendive to helena mt and i couldn't belive all i had to do is walk 6 blocks and i would find a mall with a jc pennys it was great and helena is cheaper to live to and very pretty if i were you and since you don't have much look around a little go to helena or great falls and some other place in montana or even north dakota too we don't have a sales tax in montana and that another good thing too but it gets cold up there really cold it can get too-29 below zero too and that when your car don't run at all so think about it there's alot of places in the US you can go good luck to you from an old glendive resident

Glendive is by no means cheap for housing compared to the rest of the state and as was posted earlier, it's over two hundred miles to get to anything. Just a note also, the summer temps are about the same. The winter temps are much colder with A LOT OF WIND!!! As far as jobs there are some but nothing that is that good. Glendive has no manufacturing or production jobs. Recreation is limited in what you have mentioned. There are some nice shooting ranges though.

Why would you want to move to Glendive??? I mean its a great place and all..but there is nothing there...you are more than 200 miles away from any town of any size...You dont want to drive to Dickinson because it sucks too...I mean I lived there for a year and worked in one of the local hotels, but I dont know, I mean...herm...Wibaux is pretty cool on Sunday nights and I can hook you up with a local underground poker game that happens every week...but I dont know, I hope things work out. Winter in Glendive varies from 20 degrees to -20 degrees...Summers it can get to 110...its not cold in the summer by any means. You are not going to make much money in Glendive I can tell you that right now. The town is going down hill...I heard they closed to McDonalds there...which means their town is going to crap. Its the first town that I have seen that has actually lost population between census'.

Glendive just isn't pretty (to a non-Glendive resident)...now, Sidney, on the other hand, looks very inviting. We stayed 1 nite there and really liked it. Sidney has a *huge* movie theater with the original art deco decor of the 1930's. Very cool.
