I am from the western WA area, and though I grew up there, I also dislike the endless walls of dreary, dark green trees! I like to be able to see a long ways!!! Once you hit Butte, MT, then everything east of there is nice and wide open. Which I love, BUT, the weather can be extreme, very cold winters, very hot summers. Air quality in summer can be AWFUL due to wildfires. Cost of living in some areas of MOntana are very high, schools don't have some things due to low population/tax revenue. Definitely a different lifestyle, as you have to drive a long ways for things you would have had around the corner in an area like Seattle(theaters/school sports competitions/etc...)
Good luck! |

Montana has critters. If you don't like critters, this may not be a good fit for you. There are more spiders here than any place I have ever been.

Regardless, I hate spiders as well but for the most part there are things you can do to prevent yourself from accidentally disturbing a venemous little creature. |

If you catch a brown recluse anywhere in Montana Take it to a university to the entomology department. You will get famous and get your picture in the paper.
Sorry but there are absolutely no brown recluse in our state. |

My wife and I moved to Montana about 5 years ago from Washington State. We lived just south of Olympia and had web-feet. We moved just outside the little town of Lincoln, MT and we love it Granted, it does get cold here and there is snow on the ground about 6 months of the year, but we consider it PARADISE. The cold is a very dry cold as opposed to the wet cold of Washington. The small town offers a feeling of living 30 years ago. With people that actually know your name and you are always greeted with a smile and a wave. Crime is non-existant. The only possible drawback, is havng to drive 60 miles to shop at the nearest Wal-Mart Super Store. But having deer and moose grazing on your property is worth a little incovenience.

Never seen a brown recluse, but I've had black widows in my crawl space.

Too many doctors in Montana misdiagnose other spider bites as being from brown recluse spiders. If there were any correctly diagnosed recluse bites on the air force base then they must have been isolated cases where the spider came in with someone stuff who moved there and then got bitten. They don't live in the northwestern U.S. according to all the experts.

Has anybody noticed? We've had a pretty good discussion going here. We're at 3 pages now.
Has anybody noticed that the Original Poster has not come back. Never replied to anything anybody has said?
