I recently moved to Helena from North Dakota, and I too have a pet. We had a hell of a time finding a place that would accept pets. We basically had to beg, borrow and steal to do it. I would recommend disclosing the pet last...so as not to turn off the landlord right away. Worked for us. We didn't tell them about the pet until after we signed the lease. I wouldn't recommend doing that...but for sure don't tell them until after you've talked quite a bit about the property and the landlord appears interested in you as a tenant.
Hope I was some help. |

I have a job interview in Helena next Wednesday with the company I am hoping to transfer with! I'm spending the week in Bozeman and driving to Helena for the day. Thanks to all who have given advice and tips. Keep them coming and wish me luck!

Just out of curiosity, why are you spending most of a week in Bozeman and only one day in Helena? Spending at least a couple days here to check things out and drive around to familiarize yourself with things might help your decision. Just my $.02.

Actually, my boyfriend and his family already had reservations in Big Sky so I am staying there with them for a few days. They have had these reservations for months. I figured one day in Helena was better than none until we can go back specifically for multiple days in Helena.

We are building a home near Helena (Montana City). Before we started, we looked for a rental several times for just ourselves and two dogs. We only had luck with woodspropertymanagement.com as the last post suggested. The nicer rentals that would allow a pet were higher than what we found in Great Falls. Keep looking at the daily paper online http://www.helenair.com and check with any property managers. East Helena has older homes and many newer plexes that might be easier to get your pooch into. It will help you if you are willing to offer an additional REFUNDABLE pet deposit to the landlord. $150 - $350 range. Also, try to get a couple of written "pet references" from current neighbors. No kidding!!! That got me into a couple of places because my dog's references clearly stated how well behaved she was and never barked! Good luck!
