Looking at relocating business closer to the oil field boom in ND. I dont want to move my family into the atmosphere going on in the Williston area. Looking at Miles City. Would appreciate any input anyone can give on the town and area. We are big into the simple life, Horses and Football. Looking for a low crime family oreinted place to raise my boys. Thanks

I think you will find that Miles City is not far enough away from what you want to avoid. Housing is in a crunch, apartments are hard to find, prices have gone up. Because lots of other folks opted to try and do the same thing you are trying to do.

There is also several smaller scale oil fields in the vicinity of Miles City that they have to deal with. Nothing like the Bakken, but there, none the less.

That's too bad. Miles City was a great little town.

Miles City, Glendive, Sydney, all those towns have changed. I was in Miles City 25 years ago, and again, a few months ago, it was amazing.

Glasgow is still okay, or even Plentywood. Round up, Circle. But, that is quite further.

Of course, Bozeman has changed, but not like those cities in Eastern Montana.

There is a lack of available rental housing of any kind East of Billings. There are typically few rental apartments or houses in Miles City under non oil boom conditions. The newspaper ads are filled with potential renters seeking housing.

However houses are available for purchase on realtors' websites the last time I looked. None seemed absurdly over priced a few months ago. I have not noticed much difference in Miles City. Nothing is overcrowded like schools and storefronts are empty throughout town. There might be more gas station business. Motels like Holiday Inn Express require a couple weeks notice to be certain of a reservation. It is not like Sidney or points East. Glendive has noticeable increased bustle of truck & pickup traffic and stores seem busy.

Miles City newspaper classifieds just advertised ordinary sounding 3 bedrm rental house $2100/mo plus utilities.
