To get a concealed permit in MT, you don't have to prove you are qualified or trained I don't believe. You have to prove:

-have been a Montana resident for at least six months
-be a U.S. citizen
-be at least 18 years old

I'm pretty sure it's a shall issue state. You give the money and you'll get your permit - barring obvious reason.

So it woudn't necessarily increase those who are untrained as there very well could be many "untrained" out there right now with valid permits. It would only make it so we don't have to shell out the money and have to keep a record of who has a permit!

Concealed Weapons - MT Dept of Justice

My pops has a concealed carry permit in North Carolina. He got it maybe 10 years ago. He had to meet with a Sheriff's deputy and explain why he needed it, and how he was qualified to carry. I assumed the process was similar here.

Now I'm going to shut up.

Sanders County Sherrifs department told me a firearms coarse was required. They also told me that a concealed permit was also needed to carry not concealed. Their rules not the states. Gene Arnold told me that to my face about 2 years ago.

States like Montana and Texas cannot be lumped into the mess of other states that are ignorant about true gun control.

We train our kids on how to use these weapons, among other things such as hunter safety and so forth.

Anyone caught in Montana abusing such a law as this would be quickly put down by residents. Sure, there are stupid people all over, but in Montana, most of the stupid people are the all knowing transplants ... who .. incidently ... pee their pants at the site of a gun anyway ... neverminding the fact that they could never use a firearm properly or responsibly.

Respect and courtesy would rule the day once again in Montana as no one would really know for sure who's packin' and who's not.

Smile Here you go!

Concealed Weapons - MT Dept of Justice

Montana is an OPEN CARRY STATE TOO. Grin.

In many parts of the state you can 'conceal carry' without a permit. Check out the laws.

Women can carry in their purses if they wish to do this too. INSIDE city limits in Montana without getting permission from the Nanny State for a conceal carry permit.

I hate to burst some people's bubble but you have MANY pro gun/pro liberty folks, not only HERE in Montana, who practice shooting and their self defense SKILLS MORE than your alphabet agency types, your local police, your local sheriff's department folks, military requirement, etc. That includes many who only plink or hunt a couple of times a year, these gun folks shoot more than some of them too!

Keep your powder dry!

PS:

I am more worried about people who don't understand the Founding Fathers intentions and true freedom than I am about some person who owns and shoots a GUN without or with the Nanny's State approval.

"Gun control: Keep muzzle pointed at target."

That's the only law we need!

L.Neil Smith's article should be required reading for everyone, most notably politicians.

Self-defense is the most fundamental concept of personal property. If you are not allowed to defend yourself, that means you don't even own yourself (which is the basic definition of slavery), and how can such a non-entity own any other property?
