It's a big state so it really depends on the area. It also depends on your taste; three feet of snow is a plus for some but not for others.

You know what I really miss? When I was a teen, we'd take our cars out on the lake where there was nothing to hit and put them into slides. Maybe a little high risk - but it was so much fun.

Very good: hunting rabbits by moonlight on freshfallen snow on New Year's eve....(of COURSE we couldn't see them! since they were white!...but my older brother and I at some tender age of 12 or so really thought we were having an adventure)
Not so good: very few options for making a living over the years
Not so good: the topsoil in the area where I grew up was so thin and poor, but the farmers still survived on rainfall of 10 inches or less a year, just prayed it came at the right time

Good: Big Mountain is close for the kids to snowboard at.

Bad: Big Mountain is now trying to be like Aspen or Vail, importing non-english speaking workers and CA resort workers that aren't aware what being polite and nice to the customers means.

Good: Blacktail isn't too far away to drive to avoid the now Foo Foo big mountain.

Bad: The road up to it can be scary to the newbie.
