Hey Folks.........................

Is it just my area or what?.............The mosquitoes are about average for this point in summer.......but the No-See-Umms are about double what I've had in the past.......................Two factors that might be partially responsible:....1/ The creek is still running close to bank full, thus a lot more damp and mushy ground along the banks......and 2/ The wild grasses, weeds and such are twice as high as normal due to the overall above normal (and prolonged) moisture that is still in the ground in the shady areas.

Any thoughts?......____________________________ __________________________________________________ _______________________________________________

Hey Elk..............................
When that "surgical-masterpiece" is fully healed, you should tour the local grade schools... (ya know, like a "SHOW & TELL")... and lecture the youngsters about what can happen when you "Play with Knives"........like a "WAKIZASHI" similiar to the one my B-I-L (1st Marine Raider Battalion/WWII) brought back from Tulagi in the Solomon Island Chain in August 1942.

...........Hope all is still goin' well.............................................. ..............

Evening all!

Y'know, about ten years ago, just before the drastic climate change in these mountains, we used to have an obscene amount of the little beggars - and I have the scars to prove it. Then, as the weather cooled, they virtually disappeared, with only a few observable here and there.

This year - they're back! (Along with a heatwave.)

I think there must be hordes of them in Hell!

Mahrie.

No, the ones there are big enough to see, thus that's not what they're called

Ben's. Sold at Shipton's BigR. Orange colored bottle. Works on no-see-umms, as long as you apply prior to encounter. 100% DEET. Its what I use.

Thank you ElkHunter!

Not sure I want to deal with the health effects of wearing pure DEET, but what the hey - I'm too old to die young!

The nice thing is you don't saturate skin and rub it everywhere. A puff here and there on shirt. pants. and socks is plenty

Both of my arms are scar'd from no see immediately, learning what to use. I spent 2 years in South Carolina wearing long sleeves because they tore me up. Learn Quick and wear shorts and t-shirts again.
