Northwest Montana vacation cabin
I'm planning a vacation to Northwest Montana this summer/early fall and would love some input and guidance. I'd like to find a cabin (for two people - no kids) that offers privacy in a rural environment to rent for approximately one week. I don't want to be around other vacationers or buildings. Having access to fishable water (lake or river) and land to roam around and explore are added bonuses. I'm pretty flexible on the vacation dates, but would like to vacation when the weather is nice enough to spend time outdoors.
I'd appreciate any input or experiences that others might share.
Side note - will also post in Idaho forum because the northern panhandle of Idaho is also an area of consideration.

Check out the US forest service, they have cabins all around the lakes up here and there are hike in chalets in Glacier Park.

The forest service also rents a few old fire lookouts as vacation cabins. No lake or river but the views are very good.

Forest service cabins are great, but there's no chance he'll be able to rent one for a week this summer. They're usually booked up months in advance and it'd be difficult to get a full week at any one.
Something to mention is the forest service cabins are no-service (no showers, no electricity, wood fired stove). I like them but not sure about spending an entire vacation in one.
You can also check out Craigslist (montana.craigslist.org) for vacation rentals and you might be able to find a cabin there to rent....

I know this is an old thread, but it gave me some great ideas. My husband and I want to visit next spring/summer sometime, and I have been trying to find cabin rentals. I think I've googled just about every combination of "cabin" descriptives I can think of and I still can't find what I want.
I googled "rustic cabin" and what I got was not rustic. . .drywall, flowered curtains and plush carpet? Where is this considered rustic? I want to rent a cabin where I can actually see the "log" walls on the inside. I want it to look like a cabin that's been in the family for generations and was possibly built by grandpa. I don't want to stay in a dump, but I don't want it too look like a hotel, you know?
Is there some sort of key word I should be googling to find what I'm looking for?
Thanks!

Try "log cabin". There's plenty of them.
Or use the forest service cabin link above. Those are plenty rustic.

Thanks for the help. . . .
Well, log cabin seems awfully simple. . .can't imagine why I didn't think of that. It still seems as if only about 25% of the links are actually what I'm looking for. Maybe I'm just too picky, but if I want to rent a log cabin, I sort of expect it to be that. Not a vacation home with log siding. Oh well, this did help and I thank you. I'm seriously considering the forest service cabins as well. I believe another poster added that they go pretty quickly, so I'll get going on my plans!
