I can "skate ski" accross flats with my downhill skis, but it does require a hard packed and wider track. I only do it to make traversing a large flat area near a base lodge quicker rather than polling or walking from lifts to lodge and so on.

Bohardt ranch has groomed trails. It's right past Bridger Bowl on the left. (Outside of Bozeman in Bridger Canyon.) Never ski'd in there myself, but I hear good things.
