I have a few friends who are from St. Ignatius. Not a bad place by any means.

The Flathead reservation doesn't look the way most folks imagine it would because there aren't any obvious signs of severe poverty or crime. The well off reservations elsewhere have big casinos and the Flathead doesn't. Many people pass through not even realizing they are on a reservation.

Well, maybe all my questions are pointless. He had what he thought was a really good phone interview last Friday. The lady he spoke with has now gone on vacation for 2 weeks, but she promised him he'd hear back one way or the other this week. So far nothing. I'm sure they'd rather hire someone local of course. Guess we'll keep sending out those applications and resumes. Thanks to everyone for your help.

Don't give up so quick, for the last couple of years the "hire the local" thing has been pretty much over, heck the ski resort is importing people from south america just to get staffed. Things move a little different here, this week could be this week or she could have forgot about the vacation and it could be next week, or another person could be calling you. Keep sending out apps for sure but don't give up by any means. Maybe, if there's no call by tomorrow morning you could call and talk to whomever is sitting in for her, explain that you'd been promised a call and were very interested. What the hey, at least it'll let them know you're real interested right?????

You got that right about the "hire a local" thing being over ! Down here in Sanders County, the rock yards can't find anyone local to work for 10 bucks per hour so Latino green cards are doing all the work.

The rock (shale belt rock), is pryed from the rock faces and broken up with the bucket. It is then sorted by size and shape and stacked in wire cage pallets. They get flagstone,, ledge block etc. I had a chance to buy a little five acre parcel that I passed on. Big mistake ! I could have made over a million bucks If I had bought it and turned it to a quarry. Some of the rock barons here are getting quite wealthy in a hurry.

I worked at Jore as a temp for a few weeks, and grew up around the Flathead Reservation. Jore isn't tribally owned, and never has been. It recently switched hands from a local family to an Idaho potato farmer (no joke). I was a grunt there, so I didn't see much of the upper administrative goings on. I did see a lot of meth use during the graveyard shift, and the reason the company switched hands was mismanagement of funds, leading to bankruptcy on the part of the previous Jore owner- Rick Jore. Hopefully that has been cleaned up. Honestly, I don't think a job at Jore is worth relocating to. But, if it pays really well (hard to believe there is good paying job in Montana) I guess it is up to you. You can buy land there, but you may compare the wages to the cost of property before you made your decision. Good Luck!

Really, mismanagement of funds by one of our state reps? Imagine that! Well if that's the case then now Mr. Jore will have more time on his hands to see how to get more money out of us...
