Hi,
My husband and I are considering retiring and relocating to Montana. We are looking for a community where housing and the cost of living is reasonable. Shelby appears to be a nice little town. I do have a concern about the privatized CCA prison located in the community. How long has the prison been in the community? Has it affected the quality of life in Shelby? |

I do not know much about Shelby but only know that when a prison was discussed in this area it was voted down becuase of the fear of the problems it may bring to the area. If you are undecided, I would suggest you ck the NE corner of the state. I live in Glasgow --- it is rural countryside and a great community!! Cost of living here is about 1/2 what it is in the western part of the state. Right now jobs are good here due to some building projects and recreational area. We have quite a number of people moving here that are retiring due to the lake, low crime, and opportunites for retirees. If you want more info. just let me know!

My sister-in-law lives in Chester, MT and I asked her about Shelby. I don't know too much about it myself - except that it's a nice town. She said that the prison hasn't been a problem. Glasgow is a nice town also. My niece lives there - loves it. sdcowgirl is right about it. My husband and I have talked about retiring there also - quite a few years from now though. We're from Fairfield, MT but live in WY now. Will probably end up back in Fairfield as it's a great town also.
