Many little farms and little ranches, farm land has been divided and re-divided since after the gold rush. Quite a few of the people are intergenerational related... Could seem everyone is a cousin.

There are successful families living in that area, but many residents seem to just get by. The town itself is home to many retired older women who have outlived their spouses. The conflict at election time between new residents with children and older folks on fixed incomes comes to a head whenever property tax increases are on the ballot. The bulk of property taxes go to local public school district.

Winter is generally milder than many places in MT, especially if out of the north wind within the town of Sheridan. I'd go by an old house with a long backyard reaching to Mill creek.
