Hey Mark6052 was there a reason for the winds to be so strong? like a front coming through or something? We are looking at a land parcel in Augusta and that should be about where the strong winds were. Does it get that strong often? We are in Alabama and we only see winds like that with a hurricane or tornado! WOW. I hear you on the windmill!

winds of 100mph are rare, 50-60 are regular for high winds, which are often!

You mentioned a wind powered generator is that a common thing out that way? It seems that it would be sensible considering alot of the property we have found that we can afford is off the grid.

Back in the 1970s someone got the bright idea to put wind generators on the hill above Livingston where the interstate goes through.... where 100mph winds are routine (ever notice the gates on the freeway? They're not there just to steer tourists into town!
![]() Well, they put up the generators, and three days later the wind came along and knocked 'em down flat. ![]() ~REZ~ |

Great Falls is one of the windier cities in Montana. There are a number of locations that would be ideal for wind power in the western states and I've read that if the US aggressively pursued wind power it could actually provide over 40% of our electricity. That's pollution free energy and would reduce our dependence on middle east oil. Wind can be a little annoying but why not get something out of it?

Theres something that says progress when you look at 300 wind turbines on a ridge.
Many complain about the noise? as well. Funny how Kennedy didnt want any in there vacation area back east. wouldnt look right there.![]() |
