So the cabin moves on slowly. With that cold snap that's drifted about the hallowed PNW it's time for a propane heating system to be an auxiliary to the main heating system.

An investment in that will be made shortly, for now here's some pics and video:

It's time for another video link! This one is about the power setup I have inside the Survival Cabin:

I had to do some more window frame carpentry plus integrate the finished window frame into a cut-out osb section for the upper wall!

Getting the osb cut-out for the window was easy, getting it mounted up onto the logs was tricky issue.

I settled on getting the entire 8 foot by 3 foot up onto my shoulder, then resting it on the logs on the one side and a nail I hammered in on the other.

Only then was it safe to anchor the osb in via the cordless drill with some hex screws.

The window went in fairly easily. A jiggle, a whiggle and in it went.

So after a month of delays and tinkering my Kitchen storage area is finally enclosed! The temperature is a bit warmer now in there and there's less chance of my water freezing up too. I also don't have to worry about birds flying in and stealing Uly's food!

I also did some more work on the water pump installation. This will soon be ready for a test-fill, but I have to get some food-grade hose in 5/8 diameter plus a fitting for getting my tote filled!

The list of things to do on a homestead / survival cabin is nonestop and endless!

Now here is a flashback!

This is how it looked at the start of the year!

This is how it looks like now!

How are you folks finding the winter on your homesteads and cabins I wonder?

I work on cutting a tree down and splitting a log!

Getting the woodshed filled:

Instead of pulling the wedges back out, I just use a blunt chunk of iron as an extension and keep on pounding til they go all the way through.

And I want to see a closeup of that hat. I want one.

OK folks.

Just a quick update.

The reason my postings on here have been so scarce these days is my laptop decided to self-destruct and it took me nearly a month to get things back into a semblance of normality.

All my passwords were jumbled around, I had to transfer tonnes of data, get a new laptop, re-install a bunch of programs. What a nightmare.

The good news is this new laptop is a bit better, albeit with windows 10. Grrrrr.

Let's get a fresh data burst going then...

The icy cold polar vortex was pretty stomper, but I got through it ok, the wood supply was almost used up though and keeping the cabin from freezing was a bit troublesome too.

I kept the homefires going though and was ok, no injuries no cold or frostbite. No vehicle breakdowns.

I got stuck two or three times. Only once did I need a tow and fortunately my neighbor was on hand to help out.
