My husband and I visited MT/GNP for the first time 2 years ago and fell in love! We've been daydreaming of moving to MT ever since. I view MT SkyCams and real estate online regularly. We have a nice log cabin on 30 acres in GA but still discuss moving, just for the experience. We found most folks in MT to be cordial, if not overly friendly...but we are not especially social people either. But, since we grew up in GA, the main question we ask is 'Will we miss the southern hospitality?' Also, are we too spoiled by the mild southern winters? We both love the outdoors: canoeing, fishing and hunting, etc. My husband is 'blue collar' and a skilled outdoorsman. We do not have children. Even if we do not decide to move, we look forward to many more vacations in MT and are excited about a visit we have planned for September. Thanks for any input...

Best thing to do is vacation in Montana in the winter for a couple of weeks. That should give you enough experience to answer your question on the weather. It may also introduce you to Montana "hospitality" if you need to be pulled out of a snowdrift.

Remember about 15 years ago when it snowed in Atlanta and broke down so many trees? That's the same sort of snow Montana gets the first or second week of June every year

I second the other post -- come in the dead of winter and learn firsthand whether you can adapt. An average January day in Montana can be up to ONE HUNDRED DEGREES COLDER than winter in Georgia. Does that put it into perspective?

OTOH, Montana humidity is a lot lower even at its worst, so if you suffer during the summer, it may be worth the tradeoff.

Oh, as to southern hospitality ... why not bring it with you? I'm sure regular Montanans, especially small town folk, would enjoy it as much as you do!

How do the locals like having Dave Letterman owning a ranch there? At least he got married there.

I like MT. I have spent many days/weeks in the last 35 years around Kalispell and Bigfork.
