Anybody recently move in or out of Lewistown? What is the local buzz? Population seems for the moment to have settled in on 6,000 but are locals expecting it to hang on or go thru another round of declines? I heard of some downtown declines but how bad is it and is there any pattern to who is failing vs. hanging on?

Region has lots of outdoor highlights & variety of terrain / elevations, more than I fully understood / gave it credit for, more than many outside the area know. Greener than I knew. I hear about 65 inches of snow per year in town. Is that about right or an undercount?

What about Lewistown is surprising / little known? Any significant new employers in the area?

Do folks in neighboring counties still come in to shop, use healthcare, entertain as much as before or do they now largely bypass Lewistown and motor to the bigger cities?

It gets a lot of snow which remains all winter, so has good summer grass.

I spent a week there last month. If the employees at the Yogo express local sentiment, it must be unpleasant place to live.

Great Falls is the commerce center.

Are you talking about vibe given by employees under 30 mainly or mid-aged too? The "boring" complaint is something to consider but I might cope with that better than some. The restaurant offerings did look pretty narrow in range of cuisines.

Universal --you are the interloper here attitude. Or maybe we are the only game in town, so we can treat you any way we want. I am not certain, but definitely not pleasant. Definitely not the Montana town experience I'm used to.

I was at the fair there last weekend, everybody seemed in a good mood, lots of folks in town, the restaurant we went to wasn't super busy but the staff was very pleasant, the other patrons at other tables talked to us, didn't seem all that bad to me.

I don't spend a lot of time there, but I do hunt in the area and my parent's lived near there for a while, I still have a cousin who owns a ranch near Stamford, so I'm in that area pretty regularly.
I've never had a bad experience there. The people are always friendly, I can usually strike up a conversation very easily at any of the stores, restaurants or gas stations with other patrons or staff whenever I want.
My father goes to one of the parts houses there because they always have parts for his tractors and equipment so he's there usually at least once or twice a month. I love shopping at Tractor Supply there whenever I'm in town, the staff is great and they have a huge selection of great stuff. It's a new store and it looks like there are other's going up on the west side of town. Downtown isn't bustling, but there are new businesses going up on both the east and west sides of town.

As far as I can see, it's a pretty nice place, but then I don't stay at the hotels there either.

That's good to hear. I tend to have good positive people experiences wherever I go, so Lewistown has been a puzzler.

But I have been to winter fair & it was just fine.

Thanks for the replies. A mix of pleasant and not is probably to be expected.
