Yeah, we did not get nearly enough moisture this winter so unless we get some big rains this spring I too feel fire season will be a problem this summer.
Seadreamer I have to respectively disagree with a few of your statements. One being our generally great water...have you seen the Asarco plume? I personally would steer clear of most of East Helena at this time. And the second, how is making only between 24-30k with a bachelors degree a positive thing? I think thats just sad as I have no degree and make about that.

That plume is a concern to me... I hope it can be controlled. I have property not far from there.

Ahhh, my sympathies. That is a scary thing. Especially to those on the Prickley Pear! So much for the value creek frontage brings to your home

I have also heard the Boulder area is having some problems. Something about the copper. Yum, yum. I like my water a little metallic.

AQHA, Your property is a long ways away from the plume from asarco. The maps I've seen generally show the plume moving in a north west direction from the asarco plant. your land is many miles away from that to the east.
I agree that our water can have metals and such in it. It mostly comes from natural sources deep in the ground. This whole area is laced with veins of many different metals and minerals. That's why people settled here in the first place, to mine for gold and silver. however there are copper, zinc, aluminum, uranium, radon...etc etc in the ground and these occasionally show up in the ground water. It's just like anywhere, you should have your water tested periodically, even if it comes from a city water supply.
Besides, I've been drinking the well water here for 34 years and I'm still ????sane?????...lol...just a little humor.

I was referring to that as the starting salary for someone fresh out of college with no experience. And yes, i agree that that is just sad. You certainly can't live on that and pay off student loans, etc. A friend of mine that left here for a job that paid twice as much, doing the same work, said, "It's great living here, but you can't eat the scenery".

I would love some information on living and working in Helena. My sister and her family with 2 kids under 5, are considering a move from Nebraska to the Helena area. What is the median house price, salary, etc. What are the schools like? How is the weather compared with NE? Are property taxes high? What other fees are there in the state, such as additional vehicle registration fees, or excise tax on vehicles. Are there many moving into the area? How family oriented is the area? Thanks in advance for the info!!

money money money.... is it the shame? or the root? It's best to have ones ducks in a row before running to the unknown land of fruit and honey... Lot's of good pictures, internet ads, magazine articles and movies don't give the true picture of a place. Even if one has a good imagination and ideas, you can't force your ideas into fruit. You must understand the place you live in order to find the peace you seek. Many wise people throughout history have said it must be found inside oneself in your own surrounding before making a pilgrimage to a new place, or you may do more harm unknowingly than the good that you want to do.
