Hello all,

My husband and I moved with our toddler son from North Carolina back to our home of record, California last year (husband transitioned out of the military). Realized we made a huge mistake coming back to the city life, so we decided to move again and we are looking at Missoula, maybe Bozeman MT. Our son is on the Autism Spectrum, so this is a major influencer on where we go. Back to North Carolina was a top option but we are wanting to be closer to CA for (family) and MT sounds like a better option.

Anyone one have some insight or advice for this flustered mom? Thanks in advance!

What is most important besides school / service for son?

Planning to rent or buy? Budget?

Is city political lean important?

Is sunshine key? Snow- more or less?

Plenty of threads to browse. And / or ask specific questions.

Thanks,

What is most important besides school / service for son? Our son loves the outdoors and seems to thrive when he's in that type of environment. Behaviors are next to nothing when we take him on hikes for example. However, Autism services/options are important.

Planning to rent or buy? Budget? We are planning to rent at first but buy after. We are currently living in Orange County, CA-so living in a place with a lower cost of living is a dream.

Is city political lean important? No

Is sunshine key? Snow- more or less? We want sunshine and snow.

Plenty of threads to browse. And / or ask specific questions. I appreciate your links, thanks

Bozeman has more sunshine and a lot more snow than Missoula. Belgrade and Livingston are a lot more affordable than inside Bozeman with roughly half the snow. Livingston has a wind issue.

Some good info here (and a lot of filler detail).

Just a friendly warning as an OC native who moved to MT three years ago.

Sunshine matters.

I repeat, Sunshine Matters.

I almost wept when I visited OC this last trip after the four-month grey winter in Kalispell.

Once more: sunshine matters a lot.

All will be sunny in summer.

Overcast a lot in winter will be any place with lake effect overcast (like Flathead) & valleys prone to inversions without wind to blow them out (like Missoula) & combos (like West Yellowstone).

My friend makes $9/hr as a para educator in a MT school district. In California you can make $13 to start flipping burgers at In-n-Out.
