If Sunlight Mine closes at the end of 2008, how bad will that impact the residents of Whitehall?

Their getting their butts kicked by environmentalists it looks like. No longer cost effective to keep going.

(November 2007) MEIC’s efforts to enforce Montana’s constitutional requirement for complete reclamation at the Golden Sunlight mine became more muddled last month. The Montana Supreme Court dismissed the mining company’s appeal of a district court decision ordering the State and the company to “immediately implement” the partial pit backfill alternative at the mine. That last sentence requires some explanation.

It is my understanding that the mine has other ores stocked pile to keep them busy for a few years too come. I am also told that they are just going through alot of cutbacks right now to get ready to rebuld some buldings out their. I live in town and can say this. what ever happens we will weather it as a town together.
