Default New "Mall" to go ahead...

Despite the economy. Bucky Wolford's new mall that was cut back to a "lifestyle center" is slated to break ground in a few months. I'm wondering what new buisness's will be moving in now? Looks like we're slated to have a north reserve st (Missoula) whether we like it or not!
The up side I guess (if there is one) is that that there's going to be 1500 construction jobs for a while and 1200+ jobs when it opens so pay will have to rise in order to attract and retain workers.

I think a new mall in the Flathead is great. Since I don't fish, kayak, boat, canoe, hike, camp, backpack, hunt, stargaze, or enjoy mountain views, there hasn't been much for me in Montana since moving here. But now there is a mall I can go shop everyday, just like if I was living in Seattle or Phoenix.

I haven't looked at this design specifically, but I lived for a few years in the Strip Mall Capital of the West (Phoenix, AZ). About three or four new "lifestyle centers" were built while I was there and I couldn't tell the difference between them and regular strip malls. A few were "upscale" but they didn't really look any different.

I too was hoping for an enclosed mall if it were to be built at all. Now we're going to be the land of strip malls just like CA, and just like them they'll eventually be home to nail salons, liquor stores, adult video parlors and the like just before they're torn down.

Yeah, all the people working at the mom & pop stores will be looking for jobs.

I lived in Phoenix for years --- the new mall just meant it wasn't enclosed with walk ways --- which meant you sweat hustling from one to the other and mall owners/store owners don't pay to keep you cool.

I like going to Missoula's Southgate Mall and Reserve St. since you have all the shops (but just one of each not 5 and 6 of the same store), get a nice meal at Mustard Seed or Pearl Bakery then go home.
