Yeah... even the warmest areas of Montana average well below 40 in the winter. But the amount of snow is highly variable.
In Bozeman, we have snow on the ground constantly throughout the entire winter, often over a foot of it.

Sounds good to me, NYMTman! Give me a good blizzard, a cup of hot chocolate, and a snow shovel and I'll be ready to go!

Ya I think I posted in like five states... there are probably more I could post in but I really want to stay away from Eastern states. There are a lot of reasons, and I mentioned one and offended some people I think so I will keep that to myself. I wish Kalispell wasn't so stinkin' expensive! I loved it there although I know it gets very cold and snowy in the winter. I don't have to have mountains although even for a backdrop from far away that's a huge plus. If I can see them, I can drive to them! In Nebraska, the closest thing to mountains we have is some higher hills/mounds in Iowa.

I live in Western Montana, near Missoula, and have spent two winters here. We don't get a LOT of snow (accumulation), but we do get snow often (still having flurries here and there in April). But winters 40 and above? Hee hee.

have you thought of the west coast? I mean that is the best area for temps that don't fluctuate to such extremes. Yes, they do get more rain than the mountain areas, but with more moderate temps, you can dress for rain more comfortably than for temps near zero, or near 100! Good luck, and when you find that perfect climate, please pass along details!

Actually, many people are surprised to find out that the sun does usually make an appearance on most days, in the Seattle area! When you hear that it rains most days, well that may be true, but it may only drizzle for an hour or so in the day. Then the sun comes out, then it goes around again. Missoula has many long stretches of very gray days! Just had to say....!

I'm interested in what you think is expensive in Kalispell? If you've looked at the house prices in the valley lately you'd see a wide variety of prices.
