Education from Canada to Montana (Missoula, Whitefish: middle school, university, friendly)

Hi,

I am starting Grad School at the University of Montana - Missoula this fall and I was wondering if anyone would know how difficult it would be for a middle schooler to adjust.

I have kids going into Grades 7 and 6, so my wife wonders how difficult the new social studies and measurements will effect them. Is there a system in place at the schools that deal with that?

Finally, if you have kids what section of the city is quiet and kid friendly? Which schools do you recommend. You know the usual questions.

American education before college is very easy, especially in science and mathematics. If your kids don't have trouble with Canadian maths they probably won't have trouble with English measurements.

I can't say what Missoula schools are like today...but in Whitefish 13 years ago we used the metric system in classes, not the US Imperial system. That was in my 6th and 7th grade year, and clear through high school we continued to use metric. It wasn't until my sophmore year of college that I used the US Imperial system.

They'll adjust. In the US, we use the customary units; but if your a science major or interested in the sciences, you are forced to learn the metric system. At first it was a little hard, but now it's not a problem at all.

Thanks everyone, it was something that bothered her. Personally I would have not seen it as a big issue but you know how it is.
