I lived there in 2004 and 2005. 50 miles north of Billings; some opportunities for work there, not so much in Roundup. Distinctive rock formations, high desert climate, gets COLD in the winter; located in the Bull mountains. Good hunting, I was told; my neighbors used to bring home huge catfish. Not uber-friendly, but people are used to folks coming and going pretty quick, not much reason to reach out. The schools were good, very much on top of what the kids were doing. Lots of horse people there. Some poverty and meth issues, but I think that pain killer addictions have trumped meth in most of Montana. It has the most beautiful sapphire colored night sky in the fall. Your major worry is probably going to be work. I found work through Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch right at the Roundup school so I lucked out. Good luck.
