Well I narrowed it down....
...to 2 states. Either WY, or MT. I thought about ID, and CO, but my research is leading me elsewhere. Seems ID is pretty anti-California, and CO real estate is priced to high, and the cities are to large, to be where I want to be. Even ID real estate where I would want to be is pretty high. Seems both CO, and ID are becoming to much like what I want to leave behind here, except for the illegal immigrnat part. But I'm sure it will happen soon.
I want to go somewhere, where the folks look out for and help each other out, and don't rely on government hand outs. Earn your keep so to speak. Now I just need to figure out what city Kinda favorin Dillon, MT, or anywhere in the Bitterroots, or north western WY.

I work in the industrial maintenance field. I have worked for a major newspaper here in Southern California for the last 15 years, as a printing press mechanic. I can pretty much work on anything that is in the MFG'ing field. Conveyors, boilers pumps, cooling towers, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, welding, fabrication, etc. etc.
The newspaper industry seems to be dying out here, due to the internet, but in MT, and WY, I would think that they might still be ok for a few more years. I would look into newspapers, bakeries, bottling plants, maybe hospitals. I have also tossed around getting my CDL, and driving a truck.
Oh and Happy New Year!!! be safe everyone.

Regular folks

That's how I and hubby are feeling........Northern Calif. (SF Bay Area) is no place for regular folk anymore. Our only agenda is to get out of the fast lane, be neighborly, and earn our keep ourselves and keep it for ourselves. Tax dollars going to the "needy" (needy my hind end, lazy and substance-abusive is more like it) and bleeding-heart liberlism has done this beautiful state in. If you speak plain and proper English you ARE the minority. And.......I have had develop Spanish as my second language. Dios Mio.

I've been reading some of your posts . Unfortunately for my wife and I, we are several years from an actual move, but the plan is to buy property, around the middle of 07. Kinda depends on the $$$ situation here. i.e. getting credit cards paid down, taking the ex wife back to court to adjust support, now that she is working, etc.
I can relate to the spanish as a second language. I work with a bunch of them....thing is, a lot of them can speak english, they just choose not to.

Oh then I'm sure you would and Great Falls would make a nice fit......
We've got the General Mills, Pasta Montana, The Malt Plant, Oil Refinery, and the soon to be Coal Fire Plant scheduled for construction next year over in HighWood...... not to mention any number of several hydroelectric dam operations facilities up and down the Missouri river.
Heck, they don't call us the Electric City for nuthin'...heh heh
Oh, and our first, second and third language is "English"......... and in exactly that order.
"feeling-navi-dado"..(merry christmas)... "mucho-nuevo-botas"....... (happy new year)....... heh heh heh heh
.... "asta-la-way-I-go".... "buenos nachos"

You feel the same way we do. Can't wait to get out. I'm in southern Orange County now (talk about shallow!), but was born and raised in Corona. We went to my grandparents' church, which is the Norco Community Church. Howdy neighbor!

Great Falls area
johns65vette,
I've read some of your posts on the WY forum also. Gifyshoppeguy is right - Great Falls would probably be great for you job wise. We are from that area and plan to move back someday. We love WY but Great Falls is home. There are several small towns that are within commuting distance if you would like to live out of town.

Don't let go of Dillon,
You said originally that you were leaning towards Dillon. I grew up in the Big Hole Valley, but Dillon was where I went to High School and my family has lived in the area for over 65 years. If you are accomplished in all the areas of work you listed, you will have no problem finding a job in Dillon. Dillon is much smaller than Great Falls and is more a "community." There is a college and the town is fairly progressive, but is fairly conservative. With a background in agriculture everyone is about earning what you make and there are very very few government hand outs. The town is very close to one another and is a very proud little community. I would recommend you still considering the city. It has experienced mild growth and as of yet is very open to outsiders moving it because of the college atmosphere. It isn't the most beautiful to look at, but there are alot of outdoor activities nearby and right outside the city the rivers are gorgeous and the mountain views to die for. Thanks!
