Default Belt, Montana questions

Anyone out there familiar with Belt, MT. I know it's a very small town, pretty rural, but it has a ranch that we may want to look into. Curious about snow, cold, wind problems, people accepting newcomers in the area who don't want to change things, but just want to get along and be good neighbors. I have done some research on the area via the internet, etc., but there is nothing like advice/information from people who know first hand. We have been in Bozeman, Livingston, Billings, and Clyde Park in the past, but just not familiar with the Belt area. Thanks in advance.

well i dont know much other than from driving through a bunch of times on my way to or from greatfalls.very small small ,not too far to greatfalls, pretty windy, weather pretty much like greatfalls.just to the south a few miles the little belt mountains are very nice.there is a small ski resort just south of neihart.i like the area pretty much overall as you are real close to some nice mountain areas around neihart and monarch and close enough to greatfalls for reasonable shopping needs.

I haven't been there in a long, long time, but I remember it as a pretty little town down in a deep valley (kindof like Livingston, only smaller). Back-then it got quite a lot more snow than Great Falls, leading to the only serious drawback -- the road from Belt to Great Falls is prone to ice up, and consequently the hill up from Belt can be quite nasty even when all the other roads in the area are clear.

Belt is a great little community; very typical "main street" Montana, with a grocery store, a few saloons (bar/pub), a couple of restaurants, and very nice, honest people. Beautiful scenery no matter which way you look. Lots of history. About 20 minutes to Great Falls on a wide-lane hiway, but yes, a few major snowstorms each year. One school for K-12; graduating classes average 25-30 kids each year. I was just in Belt yesterday; here's a few pix to give you an idea:

Thanks for the info and for the nice pictures. They help give me an idea of the area.

Wow, lovely photos. And looks like Belt remains very well kept -- the buildings look classic, yet almost like new!

I used to take pheasant hunting trips to Belt. I was impressed with it, very nice and clean. Weather their was nice in my experience (October), but you can bet on some cold weather in the Winter.
