P.S. Very Smart of you to figure out I have a circulation problem! And I am glad you are not my Flight Surgeon! LOL!

20-30F? I bring out the flip flops and shorts

You'll hear this from a lot of people, but come visit first and then decide if you really want to live here. If you do decide... I'd recommend Bozeman, Billings, Butte or Missoula. Im not sure which ones have VA facilities... Im going to bet Missoula or Billings do for sure, and Butte or Bozeman might.

Montana cold is much colder than that. It usually stays around 15 or so during the day east of the Rockies, perhaps a high of 25 - 35 or so west of the rockies. Lows will get down to -20 several times a year east of the Rockies, at least once a year or so west of the Rockies.

I mentioned fingers and toes because that's the part of the body that frostbites most readily for anybody, even those of us in perfect health. Keeping them covered helps to some extend, but they still get very cold in Montana winters (mine frequently went numb in the wintertime).

But visiting is the best way to figure out if you like it, especially visiting in late january to mid feburary.

Radek,

Thanks for the advice!

At that temp, I am in shorts and a T-shirt! LOL!

Hey Bigtrees,

I am going to take your advice, and plan for a vest in the Winter Months, to see how I like it. I dont think it will be a problem, as long as I am covered. I just look forward to open space, and fresh air.

I appreciate everyone’s help and insight, very friendly, helpful, and it is much appreciated.

ElkHunter,

I truly appreciate this bit of information, make it easier on me. I contacted the VA in D.C. as the state only listed the VA regional office (I failed to look further, but I thank, you for looking), and the VA has yet to respond.

Now, I can contact each one, and see if they can handle my case.

How is the Elk Hunting up there?

Regards,

John

The VA hospital is outside of Helena. A couple years ago I brought a friend home from their after cancer surgery.. He's still kickin' to this day, (so they did a good job) but man was he glad to be on the road headed home.

After I was wounded with a sucking chest wound when I was in I felt the same way. The field hospital was more fun to me than the 8 weeks I spent at Martin army hospital at Ft. Benning.
Maybe they had better morphine overseas, but man was I glad to get outa that place..

NOBODY likes a hospital. I know because I work in one (actually several).
Thanks to both of you guys and everyone else who served.

Thanks for the kind words GLS, although I can't take any credit for being brave. My accident was my own dumb fault and was not a combat injury. Sure was glad to get out of that hospital though!

Thumbs up Martin Army

Anyone else spend time at Ft. Benning? I went to jump school there, man was it hot, muggy, and I was glad to leave there. I am in NE Montana and I only have experience with the VA in Glendive. Good care, no complaints.
