Question Never Been To Montana!!!!

I've always dreamed of living in Montana. I'm just a plain ole country girl from Arkansas and would love to be somewhere else. So, I have made up my mind to start saving and maybe I could be there by next summer. Don't know if my truck would make it there in the winter. I just wanted to get some input on where I could find the best year around job. I do anything from bartending to working with horses and I've also been a business owner. If you have any ideas, please let me know. I don't really want to live in the city but it would do until I found a place in the country. I've always heard that you can do anything if you set your mind to it. Thank you in advance for the info!
Debbie

Hi there! Welcome to the Forum... My husband has some relatives down in Arkansas. Montana is quite a bit different. But I think you would love it! Every part of the state is beautiful to me!

There are all kinds of weather patters. Some have harsher winters than others... some have more sunshine, some are more in the mountains and other parts are rolling hills and plains... all depends on your taste...

Feel free to ask away any questions we can to help you narrow down an area

Visit first...then decide if you want to live here. Make sure you visit in the winter months (January/February) to see if you think you like it.

It's hard living in Montana...I know one store that increases their business by offering a "free movie day". Business goes way up but they don't make much money from the promotion. Bars often charge $1 or $2 a beer, generally there's not much money.

I wouldn't recommend anyone try moving here sight unseen.

I've always heard the weather was rough in the winter and sometimes the winter months are long. Don't have much snow in Arkansas, mostly ice storms if anything. I love the mountians, spent some time in Colorado, cried when I had to leave. I may take your advice and just visit. I would think that jobs like bartending would be plentiful during tourist season??? Thank you all for your answers and input, looking forward to hearing more, Debbie

bartending jobs would probably depend on where in Montana you moved to. I can't imagine that they're especially easy to find in Missoula or Bozeman, as our college populations give companies plenty of people looking for service work.

This last winter I think stretched from like... Mid-october through Mid-April or so... at least in Bozeman I think I remember snow being on the ground most of the time.

I'd take some time, visit the various towns and cities and then get back to us with more specific questions on specific areas. Because Montana is so large, its hard to say how you'd like it because each area can be so radically different from any other.

No no no... keep that to yourself. We've had lots of thunderstorms lately. And I moved from Seattle to avoid the rain anyway.
