Looking for a doe hunt near Darby
Folks:
Humbly asking if anyone has property near Darby available for a doe hunt. Anyone looking to make access available to a responsible guy with his son who will keep gates as we find them, clean as we go and be deeply appreciative of the opportunity please let me know. Willing to pay trespass fee. I appreciate that you would be protective of your land and we will treat it with respect. Just looking to get away from the maddening crowd for a meat hunt. Thank you in advance for anyone who can be helpful.
Matt

I hate to break it to you Matt, but asking to go hunting anywhere in the Bitterroot, is a major faux paux for the anti-hunting establishment that lives there. I know that a lot of people think Montana is wild and free, but those days are long gone. The activists that move into this state on a daily basis are making sure that Montana becomes one big environmental reserve. Hell, they've already destroyed the logging industry here and have their sights set squarely on mining and hunting as their next targets.
Plus, you don't want to hunt mountain deer, they taste horrible, you want good plains-fed deer from the eastern part of the state.

I have a map/atlas made by Delorme. It shows all BLM/State land that you can hunt on. You might want to obtain one. I think they have a website, not sure though. I picked up my atlas years ago called "Delorme Gazateer." Well worth it.

While this doesn't answer your question specifically as I do not have land near Darby, You could check with the FWP for damage hunts.
You can register online on a list for damage hunts for deer or elk, sometimes out of season, but sanctioned by FWP so legal. Many damage hunts are for Does or cows on land closed for outfitted hunts. They shoot off the bulls and get upset when the cows and does eat their hay.
Another option is the Block Management option where landowners are paid a small stipend by the FWP to allow hunting. Usually there are restricted numbers allowed on any given day, which is good, and the hunting is a lot better than federal/state ground where everybody can go with few restrictions.
Contact your district office and they can set you up with block management maps and names. Good Luck.
