As far as the original post is concerned, Great Falls is the best bet due to it's history and Malmstrom AFB. I don't think the OP was looking for "diversity" in an "LA way", but if there was such a community present in Montana. I know there are quite a few Native Americans and "Hispanics"(mainly Mexicans) as well.

I have always referred to myself as American plain and simple. My visit to Montana with my Italian friends and my German / Appalachian partner was one of the best trips in all of our lives. We found Montana and Red Lodge in particular as one of the greatest places on earth. We were never treated better and loved every minute spent there. We have all conversed on how to get back there to call the area home and are currently putting our long term plans in place. In 18 days spent all over the area and in Wyoming we never once faced any “racism” and we look like a delegation of the United Nations motorcycle brigade. Congratulations to the state of Montana for being one of the most beautiful, easygoing and friendliest places I have ever been and see you again soon!
C'mon back and enjoy!

What's wrong with our communities as they are?

By "diversity" do you actually mean you'd be happier if Missoula looked more like "diverse" LA, complete with racial gangs killing people at random for, among many other senseless "reasons", something as trivial as being from a different ethnic group &/or trespassing in "their" ethnic turf?
Moderator cut: It has been brought to my attention that Felon Spy is not a credible website, and according to the City Data Terms of Service we can not endorse competitor and/or potential competitor "statistic" websites because it is considered advertising/copyright violation.

Just in Belgrade, MT (outside Bozeman) there are 32 convicted felons with gang crimes in their rap sheets ALL from California. And thats just the ones she could find. It's not about race, it's about attitude and moral fiber!

Personally I don't blame a person for moving here to get away from the crap in the cities, but they bring their crap with them! Where does it end?

I don't know why it bugs me, but every time I see one of those late teen-early 20's white kids walking around with their pants flying at half mast (like some rapper died or something) and the hat on sideways I get this urge to beat some sense into them,(like my dad would have done if that was me..) or hang em up by their pants off a bridge somewhere until they swear not to do it anymore.

I guess it's payback for all the crap I pulled when I was in Jr High/High School...

Exactly! Good people are good people, we all bleed red so we might as well get along the best we can.

Whome is on a distinguished road
Smile The Last Best Place...at least back then

Montana will always be the Last BEST(Beautiful) place in my book, grew up in South Central L.A., joined the military late 80's and discovered only the best/ beautiful land and people in the United States...In Montana as an 18 year old kid(use to california traffic/driving) driving in the snow slid off the interstate into a "gully"?, got stuck in a pile of snow and no sooner than a good Montanan comes to the rescue, 4 wheel truck tows my car out no trouble at all for him and and I'm back on the road.
Then as a broke college student post military service far away from home in the state of Montana around Thanksgiving, an elderly lady who was a waitress in a local restaurant I'd frequent for lunch, knew me as a regular and invited me to her home for Thanksgiving dinner with all her family who welcomed me to one of the best Thanksgiving meals anyone would enjoy.
I remember walking down the street and perfect strangers genuinely greeting me with a "Hello, how are you today?" and just in awe that when it was football season whether it was 1-AA or 1-ZZ the fans came out and supported their Montana Griz football or Montana State in any kind of weather. Maybe it was just me growing up in the big city but I enjoyed the Big Sky lifestyle...(loved the no state sales tax, 99cents=99cents)
Long story short I didn't feel like an African-American in Montana, I felt like the people and the state of Montana treated me as Human Being and I left there knowing where "true decent human beings" live. (At least during the time I lived there)

I think it's still that way in many places in the state...

Sure, "I dont care what color or religion you are, just dont tell me to not discriminate, hate, or attack you for not being MY color or religion".

That kind of math doesnt add up.

MOST of MT is a very tolerant place. Any of the larger cities anyway. If you are black, you will be a very noticeable minority, but you will neither be alone, nor will you be ostracized. The larger cities are growing more and more diverse (much the the chagrin to a few unfortunate small minded fools). There always has been a large native population (at least in the sense of being noticeable), and there has recently been noticeable numbers of mexican americans in Montana. I say give missoula, great falls or bozeman a chance. Its a cheap place to live and a good place to start off.
