Default Garden question for Townsend & Belt, MT

OK, looking at ranches in both locations. Need anyone's knowledge of garden growing in either or both places. One ranch in the Townsend area had a great looking garden with corn even being grown. Never thought I would see that in Montana.

As far as Belt, I have done some research, but don't know if it would be harder to grow a good garden there since it is 121 miles north of Townsend (where apparently you can grow a decent garden). Also, any comments about the weather in general in the Townsend area would be appreciated, i.e. length of snow time versus clear ground time, etc.. I saw the information on city data. com on Townsend as well as Belt, but you can't always go by temps and snowfall amounts on that site.

Just a guess but I think Townsend may be the better place to grow a garden.

With enough sunlight and water you should be able to grow anything you want in Montana. Winters are generally shorter on the east side of the divide than on the west, and the west side grows lots of corn.

Just make sure you have enough water and good soil and you'll be able to get veggies to grow.

We always had a big garden in Great Falls, and grew just about everything. Growing season was a bit short for sweet corn, but we always had more beans, peas, zucchini, carrots, onions, rutabagas, tomatoes, and potatoes than we knew what to do with. A common prank was to leave a few surplus zucchinis on a neighbour's porch, ring the doorbell, and run.
