Default Lonepine and Hot Springs Information

Anyone out there familiar with the small rural areas of lonepine & Hot Springs? I know they are very small, but some good ranches appear to be available. Looks like the winters may be long and snowy; any comments on newcomers being welcomed or rejected, etc. Also, is this area part of the Flathead Valley or not? I couldn't definitely tell from my atlas.

No, it's not part of the Flathead Valley. It lies outside of the valley.

The ranches that you're looking at are likely on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, be aware of that. You will want to visit to get a good idea because it's not the Montana you see pictures of. While some may call it pretty, most would call it arid and dry.

It's one of the parts of Montana that hasn't changed much in the twenty years I've travelled through the area. I don't know what it would be like to be a non tribal member living on the reservation.

I just moved from Hot Springs a few months ago after living there for ten years and here is the real deal on that area.
Hot Springs/Camas and Lonepine is on the Flathead Reservation. It is 75 % white and white folks can own property within the reservation boundaries. The Flathead river in ancient times ran through that valley , it now run through the west side of Mission Valley. The valley that Hot Springs is in is now called The Little Bitterroot River Valley.
It is arid and has lots of sagebrush and Ponderosa Pines are the trees ringing the valley.
The tribal forest areas above the town have lots of Red Fir, Larch, spruce and Lodgepole Pine. Hot Springs is now becoming a Hippie/Gay/Lesbian haven, tons of pot, a bit of a music scene at the Symes, several hot mineral soaking pools etc. I own a house in hot Springs that we have rented out right now. It is a very beautiful area and if you are not tribal then you need a permit to recreate and fish etc. (Permit is only needed when on fishing or whatever on tribally owned property.) The Cabinet range, the Salish Mountains, and the Mission Mountains are on the Reservation. The Missions rival the Tetons in Wyoming for beauty and there is a Glacier you can see from Ronan.
I've posted these pictures of the Hot Springs area before ,but here ya go.
