Areas in Colorado, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming are being hit pretty hard too.... but the Bitterroot valley is being hit the hardest out of all of them......
|
I do understand your concern but you just can't compare a big increase in an area with a low population to begin with to the growth of the larger cities you mentioned. Before I retired in December I spent a career at the phone company and really got a very good sense of where the growth was because I worked on jobs in all fourteen of our states and kept engineering specs in files for jobs our group worked on. Montana, North Dakota and Wyoming had a miniscule number of jobs and these jobs are directly related to growth in those states. Colorado has massive numbers of growth jobs that we can barely keep up with and Salt Lake City and Boise are also exploding with growth. I'm not trying to downplay what you're experiencing, afterall you live there and I don't. I'm just saying that in terms of sheer numbers of people and the planning that is required for developments, phone service, roads, utilities and all the rest that the Bitterroot Valley and other high growth areas in Montana are really very small in comparison. And let me add, I don't want to come across like some snob who lives in a big city and knows everything. That's not how I am. I'm just trying to offer some perspective on growth because I've lived all over the west and I've seen it first hand so my comments are meant to be constructive and by the way, you've made some thoughtful comments which have added to the conversation.

The "Report" was about "growth"... notice I said "Report".... not article....
For a valley the size of the Bitterroot to grow by 49% in 7 years..... now that's "big"..... As big as, say, Orange County growing by 49% in 7 years.......
Or King County growing by 49% in 7 years....

Thanks for repeating that, I feel like I'm taking to 2 year old kids. Read the article/paper, after which if you still don't get it.......then seek professional help, you may have ADD (attention deficiet disorder)

John65vette and Sandyco,
You guys are the type who could move to a rural area like this and be completely content, but I feel sorry for those who dream about it all their lives then finally move here and discover its just not enough for them. Like I said I'm happy there are California people, and others, who are attracted to Montana because it really will make this an even better state. The diversity of thought will be good for everyone.
Many of those who speak out against the "outsiders" are from Missoula. I would not wish what has happened to that place on anyone, but some mixture of new blood is good.

It was the diversity of thought that got so many thinkers to come to Missoula in the first place. They thought they would just add alittle to the growth, it was for the good ya know. Its grown alot, no not by millions but enough to make a change. My diverse redneck thinking is Im glad Im not there.

AQHA, I can answer very simpy your question on page two of why folks might want to move to your fine state. My wife and I are considering it for just the reasons you give. We enjoy being left alone, being "bored" with nothing to do but hiking, riding, etc. I have witnessed the decline in quality of life in MN with the enactment of laws preventing most of the things we enjoy, shooting, four wheeling, hunting, fishing. Personally, I love my freedom, want to keep it, and MT (and a few other states) is a very appealing prospect for us!
