There are business councils in Wyoming who have posted for workers in Michigan, because of the automobile industry's downturn, in hopes of attracting workers. Naturally, with the influx of workers, you have all the headaches of finding enough housing and etc., but I can guarrantee, you can find work in Wyoming, right now. Good luck!

We just moved to Gillette, Wyoming. Guys are being hired off the streets who have experience in heavy equipment. I've heard that the coal mines are paying as much as $30/hr. for operators. My husband transferred with his job but has just accepted another job driving a water truck to/from the mines & oil rig sites for much more money than he was making. We love Gillette so far. It is in NE Wyoming. I'm a teacher so the main reason we moved here is because wages in Wyoming are tons higher than in Montana. Look online at the Gillette newspaper, the News Reporter, as it lists tons of jobs your hubby can call on. Best wishes to you!

On your paragraph about water meters, Granite county or Town of Philipsburg just concluded a bid for contractors concerning the installation of water meters to commercial and residentces because there are none up to now. About Gillette, Wyo,, I go there quite often and the lady above is correct about opportunities there. My motel rate was around $100 a nite, though. Days Inn, I think. That morning at the motel breakfast someone asked me, probably a contractor, if I was looking for work. I was just presenting a bid to the utility there.

Oil and gas is booming from Dawson County north, particularly in Richland and Roosevelt counties as well as abit in Daniels county. Some still in the SE in Fallon, but the big news is the expected development of uranium mining in Carter County near Alzada (permitting is expected to start in early 2010). Additionally, wind energy is a growing industry, of course coal is still a factor, and there is exploration in geothermal.

My brother in law was working in grand junction on a oil field, reading meters ? Cant remember the name of the job he was doing, seemed prity easy. In 6 months he made over $56K, but then the company had to close for a while, due to lack of funds.. so now he is on unemployment getting over $500 a week. He will be looking for a job soon, i've thought about going into the oil jobs, just for the cash, get bills paid off, look at buying a house, give it a go for a couple years, save and put away and live like were poor. But nothing solid as a lead yet, just lots of "they are hiring anyone" type of leads, that end up with all kinds of strings attached.. Since we have a 19 mo old at home, i dont want to go for 6 weeks and 'see if things work out' and leave them behind. a lil one changes a LOT in that short of a time.. i'm not afraid of hard work, that and cash to move.
Still a option though, for a single guy, it would be a great opportunity to make some serious cash.. just be SMART about it and put half away for later when you cant work the fiels.. invest and plan for the future.
