Seriously, it's all about selling your eyeballs to advertisers, and the more eyeballs they can collect, the more they can charge. Controversy brings a lot more eyeballs than reporting that "life goes on". News reporting hasn't been about TRUTH in a very long time.
Quite true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you lived there on a more permanent basis, it might be different. I've gotten the impression, and I believe it's legitimate, that there is a lot of animosity about the people, like me, who only come for the summer. We go there, we love it for the warmth of summer, the Park, and the views, and bail as soon as winter hits, an eight-month endeavor in that region. Then we come back the next year when it becomes nice again ...

We go there, we tread on their land, and peace-out as soon as the weather turns. I think that could be perceived as a slap in the face ...

While working outside the Park a few summers ago, I befriended a white middle school teacher who lived in Heart Butte. He got nothing but respect from the community ...

We seem to invest little in their community, I believe that might have a lot to do with it ...

Question Questions

Can anyone tell me what the climate and geography is like in Browning and north of Browning? Like near the border of Alberta, Canada. Is it cold and rainy a lot? Does the sun make an appearance often, or is Browning relatively sunless? How is the summer in Browning? Warm or cool? Is Browning located close to the mountains? Is a lot of it forests and rivers, or farmland? Are there any little places, like diners and small books stores, in Browning itself? What are the outskirts of Browning like? Is there nothing for miles on end, or is it slightly urbanized? Mostly farming land? Is there a point where, once you exit the town, there is nothing but flat land (and mountains in the distance, obviously) for miles? Approximately how far is Browning from Helena, and how long is the drive? Also, can anyone tell me about the Blackfeet tribal stories and heritage? Such as how they believe that they came to be/ what they believe they are descended from? Or any interesting tribal stories about their heritage?

Thank you!

Please do a search as there's plenty of climate and other info already posted about Browning.

I've already sifted through nearly ever post that has to do with Browning and nearby towns in the area. I've read some pretty ridiculous things, too, that were completely unnecessary to my research. I know all about Browning's climate now, thank you very much. But I'm still left with a whole bunch of other unanswered questions... Honestly, not to come off sounding bitchy or terse, but I'm sort of on a tight schedule..
I'll explain>> I wrote a book, well, I am finishing writing a book, and I decided to use Browning as my location. It was a completely random thing. I just needed some random place in the middle of nowhere that nobody has ever really heard about. I chose Browning because during my first Google search it seemed like a quiant little town, and the pictures looked very nice.
Anyway, my editor and publicist thought that it may be best if I dip into the culture of Browning a little. You know, the Blackfeet and all that jazz. Apparently the first half of my manuscript does not really give a sufficient description of Browning. That factor has forced me to do a lot of research in the past 24 hours. I still have no clue what the Native American culture is like, and I am nearly on the verge of going insane. I am expected to have my manuscript exported by the end of the week, and I am nowhere ready for that.

I know that doing the research is really my own problem, but a little help would be wonderful. That's what this forum is for, right? Helping others who are in desperate need of information?...
In return for all the help, I promise an acknowledgement in my book to all of the wonderful people on this forum. I have no idea when my editor and publicist are going to finsh hacking up my book and suggesting changes, but when that daunting process is done I'll be sure to post the release date and any other relevant information. Hell, I'll even ship a copy out to anyone who wants it. It's sort of a local thing, though. I'll probably end up as one of those novelists who has their books on a rack in a supermarket, and everbody just walks by them without a sidewards glance. Lol. It's such a sad fate. Maybe I'll make it big, though, who know?

To find out some info about the Native American culture in Montana you can go to the website for the Montana Dept. of Public Education. At the top of the home page is a link Indian Education for All. That should lead you to links with all kinds of information, not only about the Blackfeet, but other tribes in Montana. I hope this helps out!

i grew up 40 mins. from browning and i do have to say it is a very poor indian reservation with lots of stray dogs running the streets. nothing stays new for very long before it is vandalized or just not taken care of. the only positives about the place is that it has a new indian casino and it is only a half hour from the entrance of one the most beautiful national parks in the country
